It can be difficult to find truly good food at a reasonable price steps from the Vatican. If you wander into Il Mozzicone you still haven't found it. Located in a small piazza just off Borgo Pio, the outdoor seating looks inviting and after a long walk and seeing the full tables we gave it a chance. Waiter was totally... More

We struggled to find a restaurant in Rome which combined great food & service.... until we stumbled across this place! Warm greeting and sat at a table inside, the restaurant has been done out really nicely! We both ordered lasagne which was really nice! Just what you would expect in Rome! We also had Peroni on tap which was probably... More

The food was average. I probably wouldn't go back but if you're hungry it was conveniently located and they all spoke English well. Cash only!

The restaurant and terrace looked modern from the outside. It's located in a cosy street, not far from the Vatican area. The antipasti were fine: we had tomato bruschetta and grilled vegetables. Then we had ossobucco and gnocchi with pesto and mozzarella. The gnocchi tasted good, although I don't think the pesto was fresh homemade. The ossobucco I ordered was... More

We had dinner here one night, and the food was excellent! Service was prompt & friendly, and the menu was typical of restaurants in the area. Food was delicious, moderately priced. Great spot for a casual meal.

We came here with a group of eight people after a meeting for a late lunch and were in a bit of a hurry. The restaurant was busy but not overcrowded, yet when we ordered we were told the waiting time would be 20-30 minutes. We didn't order any elaborate dishes, it was a range from pasta to salad to... Went here just for a coffee but saw the pizza and had to taste. Fabulous 4 cheese one. Great coffees - big pizza and two coffees eur 16. Loved it.

After visiting St Peters Basilica we sought somewhere to have a meal and came across this restaurant slightly off the beaten track. The location was excellent, the food very good and service very good also.

We had a very good lunch in this restaurant, which is nicely located and has very tasty food. We ordered a buffala and tomatoe pizza and a gnocci dish, and both were delicious. The service was good and the prices are acceptable. Definitely recommended after a visit to the Vatican.

Nice ambience, service was excellent, food was good. Extensive wine list. Cost a little more than most places in the area but the quality was good. Recommend their tiramisu.

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
