My most favorite lunch of my 10 day visit. Salmon tartar was surperb, wait staff the best I had in Rome. Recommend it highly

This is a nice place in Via Merulana, just in front of Teatro Brancaccio. The quality of the food is undoubtedly good. It looks like everything is homemade. We got some pizza and artichokes, they were delicious. Only complaint is that the place is way overpriced. 16 euros for a couple of pizza slices and 2 artichokes is just unacceptable,... More

Popped into this attractive looking bakery on a leafy square for a quick lunch, as it looked sweet and was filled with locals. A small plate of pastries and 35 euros later, we walked out feeling like we'd been fleeced. The bill included 12 euros for 2 small lemonades! I hate to think what it would have cost if we'd... More

Nice place. Outdoor tables. Few steps from Santa Maria Maggiore , Colosseo and Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Midrange prices.

We really enjoyed the drink and Apperitivo buffet for 18 euros. We intended to just have a snack before our dinner but ended up having 3 plates at the all-you-can-eat buffet. It was great value and delicious food. The cocktails were also yummy- we would recommend the Panella house cocktail.

Very good products and nice service but expensive. There are many other places for less and same service. They also have shelf service (almost half price for coffee)

This is the bakery of choice when we are in Rome because its in the neighborhood we stay in. We really like the quality of the pastries, food and coffee. This bakery would be a 5 star establishment if it wasn't for the unprofessionalism and lack of respect from two women who work there. One on occasion she made fun... More

With an overdose of sweet pastries in Italy this was an welcome experience. The Parma Ham and Brie pastry was to die for. Tranquil little restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. The patisserie looked amazing with a wide variety of sweet and savory dishes

The place to kick back, relax and watch the world go by. Located a pleasant stroll from the Mary Major Basilica, Panella offers an amazing range of exquisite sweet and savory pastries to accompany great coffee or wine and cocktails. The staff are really nice and are always pleased to help you make your selections. This visit saw me inhale... More

Actually we had vouchers for italian breakfast for the Panella, otherwise we might have not come accross it. Very nice breakfast location, best croissant in town! Go for the cornetto con crema - love that one! If you do self service there, the prices are very good (2 capuccinos, 2 cornettos for 6 EURO), but if you prefer service at... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
