Authentic roman food that is delicious all the way. Heard some rumours about slow service, but we met only fast and nice personnel. Be sure to be hungry when you arrive.

Wow!! Really a great culinary experience. It reminds me my Italian's grandmother's homemade fresh food. Try the antipasti: parmiggiana for instance!

Lunch on our last day in Rome, couldn't have picked a better restaurant! Easily wins the "best and cleanest toilet in Rome" award on this trip, we were impressed! Frank was helpful and friendly without hovering, food was fantastic, wine was tasty and we almost wished we had sat inside, it was so clean and tastefully decorated.

Generally quite good but not great. Reasonably good food at a reasonable price. Wine not overpriced. Overall not a bad place to go to.

Everything took too long. We were served bread and asked for olive oil and never received it. Starters took too long... For main course (took too long) my wife ordered a ravioli with was perfect except for the fact that it arrived luke warm, and I was served with the wrong dish, and the dish I ordered, pasta with fresh... Have had lunch and dinners here several times, always great food, offers an extensive menu with lots of good choices, highly recommend the truffle dishes. Excellent choice to take friends, family or significant other.

We visited this lovely restaurant on Monday 09.01 for dinner. We had one mozzarella dish, bruschetta, two pizzas, wine and dessert. Magic dessert. Sure to come again!!! Your friends from Athens, Greece!!!

We stopped in after meandering the streets of Trastavere on a cold winter night - wouldn't have missed seeing the area and this gem of a restaurant. The gnocchi was absolutely delicious - maybe the best I've ever had! Cozy and warm, great wine and wonderful evening!

We ate here on the first night in Rome and it was a perfect start for the holiday. It is a traditional Italian restaurant with very good food, friendly service and reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend of all of the Trastevere restaurants.

Having already experienced a memorable Christmas in Rome, we thought it could not get any better. Then it did. All five of us (three adults, two teens) agreed that we had the best food and the best service ever at La Scala, a restaurant we knew nothing about previously.

Thank Kathleen Q

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
