So we stumbled upon this place after a long, cold morning seeing the pope (humble brag) and really just wanted to get in somewhere quick on the way to the Castel sant'angelo. We saw this place which was empty and thought why not - we got a table v quickly and within 10 minute the place was so full. Good... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this small family restaurant. We ordered dishes from the dishes of the day list and it was excellent (saltimbocca, raviolis). Very nice primitivo wine for €3.5 a glass. Mixed bruschetta was very tasty. Only the tiramisu was a bit disappointing.

Porta Castello had better reviews than most places around the Vatican so we decided to try it for a late lunch. They were closing at 3, 5 min after we arrived but the very nice and friendly waitress let us order and the pizzas came promptly. We could also get (really good) espressos before leaving even if the place was... More

We had a memorable lunch at this small family style restaurant with delicious food. The starters, pasta , and the pizzas were fantastic. The house wine complemented the flavoursome lunch.check it out !

The best carbonara that we have ever tried, awesome starters and an Italian atmosphere. Mostly visited by locals and quite calm! :)

The place had great food. I had the pizza margarita and it was excellent. However, the place is very small and they literally pack you on top of each other to make use of all the space. We happened to go for lunch and they were very busy. The service was average and I felt like we were treated as... More

We had a pizza, veal with a side of spaghetti which we requested, a large bottle of peroni, a large bottle of sparkling water and two coffees and the bill came to just 33 euros. The pizza was fantastic, one of the best I have had here, veal was also good. They have a very extensive menu of meats and... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
