Our target restaurant for dinner was closed for vacation so we turned up at Cuenllas on speck. How glad we are! The food was a treat, beautifully cooked from fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. Portion sizes were just right for us. The staff were beautifully attired in spotless white tunics and were both charming and helpful. The Maitre D was... More

Excelent restaurant. Excellent spanish food. Very good service. Small and for the service and the food " best food for your money". The setting is normal, not very fancy but for the price you cannot expect any beter. We had tapas eel with slow cocked egg rare ...very nice. Then chipirones ( small squids) with their black ink and white... More

Charming little restaurant (with less than 15 tables) frequented excusively by local clientelle. Simple yet elegant decoration, and classic waitares in white suits. The service is amazing, waiters are friendly and trustfull when helping you choose which wine to have with your meal. The food is equally amazing, and with an excelent value, as the ingredients are as fresh as... More

Cuenllas keeps the taste and ambience of the bars in Madrid at the beginning of XX century. Traditional in the good sense, not cheap, but excellent quanlty, incredible wine list

Good honest food, prepared in a down- to-earth manner - i.e. Nothing pretentious at all about it. Small terrace and bar out round with a small dining room in the back. For those in the know the appeal of he restaurant is less in the food than in the wines. There is a huge selection of off-list wines from France,... More

Went with a friend for dinner. Food and wine where good, but the check was a bit higher than expected and the waiter has a bit of an attitude because they wanted to close and there where only two table left... Which wasn't very cool. Will maybe comeback...

The food here was delicious. It is not cheap, but not as expensive as the decor and service might suggest. We paid $100 euros for a lunch for three, where two of us had wine (a very nice Rioja recommended by our server). We arrived late, around 3 pm, and the place was filled with Spanish businessmen. People seemed to... More

Stylish and frequented by many locals this small location is ideal for evening meals. We had the tapas offering which was excellent and good value. Good location convenient for the location and well worth looking out for.

The staff in the kitchen do a good job producing lovely food, but they are let down by the staff 'out front.' Firstly the welcome was underwhelming, which for a pricey half empty restaurant is bizarre. Secondly we were offered the English menus, but they were different with different dishes, one being more up to date than the other. How... More

One of my favorite place in Madrid for tapas. Excellent quality and great taste and presentation. Very good selection of wines and tapas with the best risotto with mushroom in town. I highly recommend the foie Pedro Ximenez. You'll not be disappointed. A bit expensive.

Staying in Arguelles

Neighbourhood Profile
Arguelles
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
