We wanted to end our week-long stay in Madrid with a special dinner and El Senador fit the bill perfectly. The lamb for two was absolutely heavenly. The portion was large and we enjoyed every bite. Great waitstaff and a classically decorated dining room added to our pleasant experience. The bar upstairs was a great place to have a glass... More

Recommendation from our hotel and a good one for a change. Their speciality suckling pig and it is very good. Service also really good and house wine excellent. It lacked a bit of atmosphere in the evening as it was a third full. Apparently much busier at lunch time.

Chose this as a final night restaurant. Food great, though do miss a range of veg with our meals. Staff attentive and welcoming. Would recommend this restaurant with no hesitation. Enjoy!!

Found this restaurant while looking for another recommended restaurant. The roast lamb was wonderful, service was friendly welcoming and helpful. Went a second time and can recommend the duck. Fun and relaxed atmosphere.

We had a business dinner, with 11 of us dining. We made reservations for 20:00, and when we got there, we were told they only open at 20:30... Eventually they agreed to sit us, and the restaurant stuff dined at the table next to us... Food came relatively quickly and the cold and hot Tapas were really good: the asparagus,... More

This restaurant is frequented by locals more than one tourists, which is always a good sign. The roasted pig and roasted lamb were both absolutely delicious. Even the grilled asparagus was wonderful. The servers couldn't have been more gracious. All in all a wonderful experience.

After several nights of terrible moderately expensive tourist trap meals we discovered this restaurant by chance one morning while taking the "route less travelled". We came back in the evening. The staff could not have been more friendly, helping with our learning attempts at Spanish. Our selection of shared starters were excellent. The suckling lamb was tender and tasty. After... More

We have visited El Senador every summer in Madrid. Always polite and most friendly service. Food is always carefully prepared. It is famous of its segovian cochinillo but everything we have tasted have been delicious. Nice and relaxing atmosphere.

We had a good lunch at this restaurant. Staff was very friendly and professional. Had Dorada a la Sal which was delicious. My son had the duck and it was very good. Prices were reasonable. Recommended by hotel concierge. Excellent choice. Would return on our next visit to Madrid.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
