Typical authentic Mexican food joint in the centre of Madrid. Right near Mercado San Anton. A very big restaurant indeed. So we did not need to book. However it was midweek. The food is heavy on the stomach as food goes. So for lunch this cuisine is much better. Dark interior. Noisy and lively so the young will find this... More

We went here looking for great, authentic Mexican food with an atmosphere, and that's exactly what we found. Quite a small Restuarants so gets very busy quickly! The mojitos and ceviche were amazing and they do great sharing platters. Definitely worth a visit!

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Madrid, together with CASCABEL in the Terrace of Corte Inglés Serrano. Natural ingredients coming from Mexico, excellent service of the waiters, and great atmosphere. Nice decoration with wrestling stuff and idols.

We had dinner in this place with our Spanish friends. It was the first time for me to get Mexican food therefore it is difficult a judgment/opinion. Anyway, any kind of food (included drinks and desserts) we had was good. We were four (2 couples) and spent approximately 90,00 €. A part from 2 waitresses, the staff was friendly and... More

Great value Mexican food, with good service and tasty options. We went for the Taco mix, which is great for sharing at 9€ per person (for a couple). Looks small but could feed an army! For me La Panza is the best value Mexican in Madrid. I've tried a few, but Panza beats them all for taste, price and off-beat... More

Very nice restaurant.. has an excellent quality/price ratio and satisfying dishes. Perfect for a dinner with friends, mates and, sometimes with your partner. This place is very alternative and it could be quite noisy but that makes it suitable for guys. Very kind staff and fast service at the table it offers also good drinks!

In the center of Chueca, very good Mexican food and tapas. Tin high tables and small low tables with a big bar at the entrance. Nachos were rich but the queso was not. The Margaritas were superb and tequilas were of excellent quality. Staff is very friendly. Better to reserve

Very popular little Mexican place. Waiters are very friendly, tables are cramped and close together but very popular and you must definitely reserve on a Saturday night. They have two sittings: 9pm and 11pm, and don't accept credit cards, cash only. I shared nachos with two other friends whch were the most delicious I've ever tasted with frijoles and guacamole... Definitely recommended for an easy-going night out with friends in small groups, in a cheerful and lively atmosphere, tasting excellent mexican food (nachos con guacamole is a must) and drinking sangria and margaritas. Excellent!

Nice, inexpensive place to eat before nightclubs open in Chueca (Madrid LGBT district). Service was nice, friendly. Food was fresh, and healthy. Located close to Chueca metro stop, it's a convenient place to get a meal with prompt service, and nice atmosphere. Nothing fancy, but pleasant. Me gusta!

La Panza es Primero is located on Calle Libertad in the heart of Madrid's emblematic barrio of Chueca. The restaurant, which opened in 2000, converted the old wine cellar at this location into an authentic Mexican canteen, decorated with typical objects from Mexican culture, such as a five metre virgin of Guadalupe and a free wrestling ring! At La Panza es Primero diners can enjoy Mexican food, full of the bold flavours, colours and aromas of Mexico combined with Spanish ingredients, creating a happy fusion. Diners will find friendly and personal service in this colourful and fun restaurant as well as authentic Mexican culture.

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
