This is right near the Botanical Gardens. You were only allowed to sit outside if you were having lunch. It was strange to see them turn so much business away! A slightly pricey lunch. We had the ham, ‘laminated potatoes’ and egg. The potatoes were...More

What a pleasant surprise do find great service and value for money in such a touristic location. Our waiter was very patient with us trying to decide on our order and passionate about the food. Everything was delicious and the bill more than reasonable.

El Botanico has a great location near the Prado, The Royal Botanic Gardens and offers umbrella-covered sidewalk seating. The food is fine. Stick with the simplest items like the eggs and ham over potatoes or the Caesar salad and you will be fine. Even the...More

Located near the Prado Museum and the botanical garden, Restaurante el Botanico offers decent food and attentive service. Average prices and possible to have drinks or a meal outside.

Our table, located on the terrace overlooked the Botanic Garden and Prado, gave us a peaceful setting for a relaxed lunch. Our Paella washed down with a bottle of white wine (Alborino) was 122 Euros. Would recommend.

We were passing at breakfast and dropped in - a good start. Then we had dinner. Then after a lot of travel, ended up back in Madrid and at this restaurant - we were greeted like old friends and were again rewarded with a very...More

Caution for those with gluten allergies, this place does not care about you. We asked in Spanish and English, but the waiter insisted he gave us some gluten free bread when it was not. My wife took one bite and we suspected he was lying,...More

Fine restaurant with a good Spanish cuisine just at the entrance corner from Prado museum and also close to Thysen museum. The restaurant has a traditional inside as well as an outdoor terrace.

After visiting the Prado, we were headed for the Botanical Gardens right next door. We paused to refresh and get a bite at the El Botanico, which offered outdoor seating and great service. Food and wine were excellent and the weather was perfect for a...More

After visiting the Prado we found this restaurant in the quiet streets around the botanical garden. Friendly staff. Had tomatoes for starter and afterwards paella. Bit expensive.

Description
The spirit of Paris in Madrid There was a time in which Madrid wished to be like Paris, and this lovely district "Los Jeronimos" is the outcome of such pursuit... It was our King Alfonso XIII, who after travelling across the old continent, realized that Madrid did not have a majestic district in line with Europe's trends back in 1900. Manuel Hidalgo, in his novel "Las meninas andan sueltas", mentioned that these Maids of Honour used to escape the painting to walk around the Prado and, in one street leading access to the Retiro Park, they used to relax in a majestic terrace as in the King's dreams for Madrid. Most likely the writer was thinking of "El Botánico Café". El Botánico is placed in a privileged location surrounded by the Prado Museum, the Botánico Garden, the Jerónimo's Church, the Retiro Park and the magnificents hotels Ritz and The Palace. El Botánico has been a witness of the world of culture, cinema and aristocracy, with characters such as Sir Paul Mc Cartney, Bono (U2), the Princess Elena .... and many other world citizens who have chosen Terraza El Botánico to enjoy a peaceful moment.
