Went for meat and steak we got. No disappointment. Outstanding quality of meat dishes as well as other dishes. Unfortunately seems to be closed for now, so waiting for its re-opening..... Hopefully quality sticks up to pre-renovation

A very good Basque steak restaurant. It's centrally located in the middle of the most upscale area in Madrid. Very good wine selection. A place locals visit constantly. Still one of the best in the city.

Well located, another alternative to Ten Con Ten, Quintin, Paraguas, great food, ambience, good crowd, a place to see and be seen.

And I love the ham croquets. The prices are reasonable although if you get here too early (like most resturants in madrid) you will have to accept a little disorganization in the service. As it starts to fill up (8:30 to 9) and get a little lively they hit their stride. We go to Madrid several times a year and... More

For the dinner on the night of New Year’s eve, we went to the Restaurant Alkalde. It was completely terrible there. We sat near the entrance door, so it was not a comfortable atmosphere. The service was not very kind and we felt as if we are not welcome there. The food was very bad: we had grilled sirloin with... More

I have been going to this restaurant for about 10 years, and it simply disappoints. The setting and service are pretty good, but they are severely understaffed. The waiters were great so we couldn't be angry with them. The kitchen staff needs to be a bit more motivated to make great food, as they used to.

Not flash, more a traditional Basque restaurant. Overall ok but, i did not walk out thinking 'what an amazing place. I must return'. Seafood and fish above average but no comparison to good Galician restaurants. Amazing bread though!

Restaurant is located in an affluent area. All the designer stores are in the vicinity. Both wife and I fried hake. A fish we were familiar with. It was excellent. Prepared well. Ambiance had a nautical but old world feel. Many photos of of ocean racing boats and crews are displayed on the walls. Service was good but not great... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighbourhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighbourhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
