My friend and I stopped by Cafe Del Art in the market. We wanted a cafe con leche. We saw that this stall made them. We got ours in to go cups. The cost was €2,30 for a very small beverage. I'm used to paying €1,50 for a bigger cafe in other places. Will try somewhere else next time -... More

We ate at Mercado San Migueal several times during a recent visit to Madrid, stopping once at the Cafe del Arts to try their Portuguese pastel de nata (€2 each or 6 for €8). They also sell creative dessert style coffee drinks but we didn't sample during our visits. We found their version of the pastel de nata to be... More

Located at the Mercado San Miguel, it is a good place to have coffee after eating paellas and tapas.

Very disappointing very poor quality of coffee. I can't understand where all the good reviews came from. Not worth it.

This is an upscale market, very trendy and with lots of outgoing people, centrally located and easy to get to from Plaza Colon or Plaza Mayor (it's located next to Plaza Mayor). Had a sangria made with Portuguese red wine which was delicious. We also had a Portuguese desert (can't recall the name at the moment) and it was yummy... More

We wanted a quick bite and were surprised by the speed and the quality. We ate in a little courtyard, which provided a little peace and quiet from the bustle of the city.

We found this place in Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid which was highly recommended by our tour director. First of the service was fast and the staff were very friendly. Prices were also very reasonable. Then there is the coffee. Really good coffee. I usually don't drink espresso but I would keep on going back for their espresso if... More

Stopped by the Café del Art after a concert and much to our surprise, we did get to sit. The coffee drinks were a bit on the expensive side, but they were delicious. My husband had one with dark and white chocolate, condensed milk, I believe caramel and whipped cream. Mine was coffee with mint and whipped cream. The sangria... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
