Wet floors all over the place. The bread was too soft and doesn’t look fresh. In my opinion it is not real calamari seems a substitute

5 stars considering the 3 euro price for the calamari bocadillo. The bread could be better, it was a little too soft and hard to bite, but the calamaris were delicious, asking for a lemon to add more flavor is an absolute must. The only letdown...of the place is the absence of credit card payment, you need to carry cash which is sometimes a deal breaker. I paid 4 euros for a sandwich, a drink and 2 complimentary chicken croquettes. Eating them seating at Plaza Mayor is definitely a thing to remember.More

Thank you James Blick for pointing this little gem out just off plaza mayor. Calamari sandwich was amazing!

Don’t understand the hype about this. There’s no sauce in the sandwich, it’s so dry. I only ate the calamari in the end and threw away the bread. Thankfully the calamari were fresh, but they were quite salty and oily. Save your stomach for something...better!More

We ate at La Campana during the busiest hours of the day, the line was fast and lasted about 10 minutes. Even though the place was full, we asked a waiter to help us find a table and not even after two minutes we were...seated. The bocadillo con calamares and the pincho de tortilla were big enough and tasted delicious. The service was really fast and the waiters were the nicest people we encountered in Madrid. We paid 10€ for a bocadillo, a pincho and two beers. Absolutely recommend!More

We searched we asked and we found it. La Campana serves the best bocadillos in Madrid and the endless queues of locals prove it. Crispy and tasty fried calamari meets the classic chorizo taste of Spain. Totally value for money (3 euros per bocadillo) generously...filled in. Highly recommend. Me and my mother miss you so much! You were giving us a sweet afternoon snack taste of Madrid.More

Guide books and online reviews tout this little place as having the best calamari sandwiches, so we hunted it down one afternoon when we were in Madrid. It is a small, rough looking place, notable for all the people going and coming with carry-out. Minimal...places to sit inside. If you are ordering to go, you get in some semblance of a line and be prepped to order as soon as it's your turn as the staff is working real fast and don't seem to like chit-chat or stalls! Also, if you stall around, the next person in line is going to roll right over you (ha!). Almost everyone is getting the same thing--the calamari sandwich. They are pretty big (and cheap) so we split one. It was pretty good--the calamari was tender and crunchy, and not too oily. The bread was fresh. We saw no condiments, nor did we see anyone eating them with a condiment, so we just ate it "dry" too. Was fun to find the place and try a popular Madrid street food. Would I go there again on a return visit to Madrid? Nope. Too dry for me.More

I made a stop at Bar La Campana because of all the positive reviews I found on TripAdvisor. But, when I received my sandwich and took a bite, all I thought was, "Is that it?" The sandwich was huge (great bang for your buck) and...I only ate half of it. But, it was warm-ish and the calamari and bread was nothing special. The sandwich was good, but I wouldn't say t was fan-freaking-tastic, like most of the reviews here. It was adequate, it filled my stomach and you can't beat the price. I did like the heart shaped lollipop I got with my sandwich. Thanks!More
