This place has terrible food, not even close of the amazing Indian flavours. Dont waste your time going!

Came here with two friends. Ate one of the set menus. Really good service, and really tasty food. We sat inside, which has a very cosy vibe. The place was spotless also.

This is a small Indian restaurant, with good Indian food. The wine was a little overpriced, but the service was good and the food served in a timely fashion.

On our last night in Madrid, we decided to have another Indian meal and found ourselves at Calcuta. Initially, our waiter wanted us to sit at a very awkward table, right next to all the waiter and kitchen traffic. We asked to be moved to a better table and they were reluctant at first and then gave in after it... More

Have been traveling in Spain for a month & was really looking forward to a curry once I got to a major city. I found this place using trip advisor. I had the 'menu del dia' & choose the chicken tikka masala as my main course. Unfortunately, the dish was extremely disappointing. There was absolutely no taste of curry off... More

Picked this at random while walking around the neighborhood and had an excellent lunch which was a nice change of pace. Service was great - not a fancy place but funky chic and the neighborhood is an interesting melting pot of cultures anbd cuisines. Not a destination restaurant for sure, but if you are in the area....

Good cost-benefit ratio for classic Indian food in an exotic neighborhood. It is worth to visit again.

'Vegetable Korma' was really just a bland yellow curry?frozen peas & carrots, turmeric, milk, maybe a bit of onion. Papadums OK. Others said other dishes were fine. But all lacked the odors of the many spices I've come to expect from India.

Neighbourhood Profile
Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.
