We wanted some light, casual food after 5 hours touring the Prado and taking the sightseeing bus around town. We were delighted to find a table outside (and no one was smoking!) and really enjoyed ourselves. Although the place was quite busy, the server acknowledged us promptly and brought our drinks pretty quickly. We enjoyed the hamburger sliders, chicken wings,... More

lunch time on a sunday got a bit crowded, but the service staff did an admirable job of keeping things moving promptly. our party of three adults ordered variety of tapas dishes and each was delicious. we were told that our order for paella would require a 25 minute wait, which it did. the other tapas dishes came along and... The one and only time I have ever walked out of a restaurant! When we arrived the staff were rushing around manically although it wasnt that busy. It took an age to come and get our order. I speak sufficient spanish to get by on holiday and have never had any real problems in restaurants. I explained 2 of us... More

We ate here twice, mostly because the first time we had such good food and it was a peaceful, convenient spot. The second time we went it was busier and the service was not so attentive, but the food was still good. Recommend the bunuelos de bacalao (cod fritters).

Estado Puro is written up in Lonely Planet as a great place to go for "new wave" tapas after visiting the Prado or the Thyssen art museums. We checked it out on just such an occasion because we needed to take a break from all that art! :) I didn't care for the decor but the service was very nice.... More

What a disappointment! The big problem here is that tapas are simply of a very poor quality. If you tried good tapas before, you will be disgusted by these and will definitely notice the difference. Almost every tapas was tasteless, in some case it was even a bad taste and smell (anchovies). Restaurant was almost empty and I can understand... More

It was very busy and we didn't mind waiting a little. Food was nice, unfortunately mostly cold. Eggs were over cooked but the waiter was happy to change it. We ordered bread 3times but it never materialised... Nice overworked waiters tried to be attentive but had no time to be friendly. Fantastic views in one of the nicest squares in... More

Disappointing food. Would not go back. Menu items not cheap and lacked real tapas experience. Service rapid and helpful.

Enjoyed sharing a selection of tapas with my boyfriend. There was a good variety of options even though I have to have gluten free. It was a good place to visit!

Went there for lunch after a visit at museo do prado and nobody welcomed us, once entered. Small space with 5 waiters and although that, nobody asked us what to order or gave us a menu. After 25' of waiting, we decided to take the menu by ourselves calling for someone to take the order... bad attitude and very bad... More

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighbourhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
