I do not know if this even warrants a star but I don't want anyone to feel conned after they have visited and eaten here. I followed the TripAdvisor rating to come here and I will always go to an independent restaurant instead of a chain. The starters were fine. We had squid rings, a little tough but I thought... More

We were in Chicoa as our friend who lives in Barcelona hosted us to this typical Catalan cuisine...and for the first time got to know that the speciality is cod fish ie bacalhau as is typical of Portugal. Whatever we had was a recommendation of the chef...starters were great so also the main dishes and to top it I had... More

On our first night in Barcelona we decided to visit a restaurant recommended by a friend at home who had lived in Barcelona. I was a little nervous because I had developed some dental issues while in Lisbon and had some severe tooth pain. When my wife and I arrived at Chicoa we began to explain my problem to the... More

We dropped into Chicoa as we veered off the main touristy strips. Our find proved to be exciting and surprising. The reception was 'cold' at first but warmed up after a little while-I think it mainly had to with the owner not being well versed in English. Once the ice was broken we entrusted the her to guide us through... More

Was here for business but the atmosphere was just as good for romantic Dinners. Fairly intimate, with excellent food and wine and some of the best olives ever.

Having not really figured out what Catalan cuisine was after 3 days in Barcelona, we went to this place on the last night (Saturday night) of our trip. A little bit 'old school' in look and decor, but the food was very tasty and staff welcoming. Unlike the other places we'd dined so far, this was also a place for... More

The interior may be faux alpine, but there's nothing faux about the food. Flavourful green olives and a couple of crusty rolls arrived at the table unannounced. We had grilled vegetables as an appetizer. They were generously bathed in a fragrant olive oil and grilled to perfection - a little browned, firm but neither crunchy nor soft. The two of... More

I found this restaurant by googling best Catalan food and found it on a time out guide. Despite this I was the only non Spanish/Catalan speaking person there. After two nights of greasy tapas I wanted something different. The service was very friendly, the setting was rustic. I had a very fresh and simple tomato and tuna belly salad, followed... More

I had visited this restaurant a few times before and had good memories of it. Unfortunately it seems they changed owners. The incredibly unfriendly lady who runs the restaurant started ruining our lunch. Then the portions were small, overpriced and badly presented. Shame, since the place is atmospheric and there are not so many typically Catalan restaurants left in Barcelona.

Staying in Eixample

Neighbourhood Profile
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
