Walked in the heat in search of this restaurant highlighted in various travel channels then found a sign on the door saying on vacation from 8/1 to 8/28.

Enjoyed our visit here. Dry much. The bombas are an absolute must. The seafood we had was a bit overcooked but this isn’t fine dining. It’s quickly made to order and served simple food.

The seafood at La Cova Fumada was not as good quality as seafood we had at other restaurants. The seafood was much smaller and too salty but the price was almost doubled the price at a nice seafood restaurant.

You can sometimes get carried away in a moment so I've waited a few hours before writing this review. Simply put, this place was great, and the squid was one of the nicest things I've ever eaten, it was AMAZING..... We got there at 11.15am...and it was full. We waited about 20 mins before we were seated but it was so worth the wait. Great food at a reasonable price....I so can't wait to go back. Bombas, Chorizo, Garbanzo, Capi Pota, Pan con tomate and Calamar a la plancha x2 with a jug of white wine and a beer for €37.50. A BARGAIN!More

I have ups and downs about this place. It is located a less touristic area of the city and the place is much the same. Of course there are lots of tourists but I've seen so many local people more than any restaurant in the...city. So this leads us to communication problems. There is one guy at the restaurant who speaks English, the rest of the staff don't speak English, intentionally or not, I don't know. So you may find yourself showing photos of the food that you want to eat. Thats not a big deal but the place doesn't seem very clean as well. I am not saying it is dirty but e.g they brought the wine glasses wet. Also I have not seen any menu or they didn't bring one, so I didn't know what to eat or how much each piece cost. On the other hand the food was simple and as it is which is a plus for me. The bomba was delicious and it's sauce was the strongest and the tastiest of them all. The squid was grilled nicely and had a simple and yummy sauce on top. But the chickpeas was overdone and somehow like mashed. The sardines were tasty and fresh but it was not cleaned and cooked as it is which is not ok for my taste. In short, if you are around Barceloneta neighborhood you can try this place. But if you are far away I don't recommend you to come specifically.More

Was a lunchtime visit, just before 13.30pm. It was packed with locals enjoying their food and chats. Had to wait for half an hour or so but it was a well organised wait, owner taking down names and calling out when tables became available. Got...a table and was served very promptly. Had a combination of various seafood...prawns, grilled squid, razor clams, octopus, grilled artichokes, fish, bomba and crispy tomato bread. The food was very tasty with reasonable portions for 2. Price was reasonable about €57 for quite a number of dishes. Atmosphere was terrific, non pretentious crowd mostly locals enjoying themselves. Friendly, efficient service. Will definitely revisit when in Barcelona again.More

Mere words will not really do this place justice. The food has to be tasted for you to understand just how incredibly good it is. It is located in this very humble, unassuming little venue, nothing fancy at all - but the food tastes like...the place should be a glass or marble palace for kings and queens. Their preparation of squid and octopus were particularly delicious.More

We wanted to find a decent place for lunch that locals also appreciate. We'd previously dined at an expensive, average restaurant/club on the beach and the experience was disappointing, so we wanted to go for something different this time. And this small, hidden place didn't...let us down. We wanted to try as many tapas as possible, so we ordered 4-5 of them, including la bomba (which is a small fried potato and flour ball with other ingredients as well - I was able to identify ham), sardines, the cod with tomato sauce, anchovies, artichokes, garlic bread. All of them were amazing. We were lucky enough to have arrived early and there was a free table inside the restaurant, which I noticed doesn't happen often. Fifteen minutes later, there were no more free tables inside and a queue formed in front of the place. I've never seen the habit of waiting in a queue outside restaurant before, but took it as a sign that locals love the place, too. Because the place is so crowded, don't expect the waiters to have a lot of time to talk to you. Also, you need to be aware that not all of them can speak English, so be prepared with some basic phrases in Spanish, too. All the staff are constantly in a rush, we didn't take it as rudeness, although some might take it that way.More

Small seafood and tapas restaurant with an authentic Catalan experience. Food was fantastic, specially the “bombas” a kind of croqueta and the squid.
