We ate here on a Saturday at around 12:30, and there was already a queue to get in, it was a pretty chaotic scene. You give a gentleman your name and wait to be called, just make sure you don’t disappear too far as you...literally have 2 seconds to respond to your name before he moves on down the list and you miss your spot. There aren’t a lot of waiters, and we waited 30 minutes for our wine to arrive and for our food order to be taken. But honestly, it was worth the wait. The grilled calamari was unbelievable, as was the La Bombas and Butifarra. Absolutely worth the visit, just be prepared to sit tight for a bit :)More

A renowned tapas bar in the charming Barceloneta, although not the usual tapas you might think of. We first heard of this place in a documentary about Ferran Adriá - the iconic Spanish chef eats here. This old school place mainly serves small portions of...seafood dishes. Cod bueñuelos, different preparatrions of squid, octopus and mollusks make up the menu, which hangs on the wall. It’s a family run business and very casual. The patronage is a mix of hipster tourists and senior locals that have been coming here for fresh seafood all their lives. The menu is simple, yet mouthwatering. This place claims to have invented the bomba, which is a croquete made with smashed potatos instead of bechamel. They top it off with a very (Mexican hot) spicy salsa. We would definitely recommed coming early and not on a Monday, when not everything on the menu is available due to seafood delivery schedules. There is terrace service, but sitting inside is part of the charm. Best squid we ever had - grilled with garlic, oilive oil, salt, and parsley. Sometimes simple is better.More

Barcelona is a great city but nothing topped the meal at La Cova Fumada. We tried a ton of different things, thinking maybe something would not be great. We were wrong. Everything was great. It's packed, the staff are super friendly and funny, and its...well priced. I would easily repeat this experience on my next trip.More

This place is a true authentic tapas bar filled to the brim with locals. Be warned it is very busy and you may have to wait for a seat or even to get in. The food was brilliant, the prices were very fair and the...atmosphere was great. I would highly reccomend you make a stop at this place during your trip! Enjoy!More

A must-taste place in Barcelona! I visited it around 11 AM, but it was already crowdy. Most visitors were local people, and it seemed like a big noisy family ) The food was excellent. I took grilled octopus and sardines, they were extremely fresh and...delicious Will come again when next time in Barcelona!More

We (adult + 15,13,11 yo) stumbled across this place on a recommendation from the Molakai surf shop. He said, just walk up and go to the brown door. Once inside, we just asked the waitress to bring anything she recommended and the food was delicious....It is very authentic from the food to decor. We loved it so much we used up another day to visit again this time with my wife. Strongly recommend. There is usually a line so find the owner, dark haired guy with glasses...get your name on a list and he'll get you in. If just solo or a couple, you can walk up to the bar and eat while standing...not ideal but same food!More

We were in Spain for two weeks, 5 cities, and ate very well and La Cova Fumada is one of the stand-outs. We came for lunch. No frills place with truly local food (it appeared several city workers/construction workers were in here for lunch which...was definitely a good sign for us). We each tried a bomba and split some tomato bread and pulpo. Can't remember what our kid got, but it was eaten! :) The bomba was fantastic, and the tomato bread tasted like something out of a grandmother's kitchen (in the best of ways), but the pulpo was the star of the show. Simple, tender, absolutely perfect. Would make the trip back to Barcelona just to enjoy a lunch like this again. Service was quick but very nice. We had ordered at the counter and forgot we hadn't paid there and walked out without paying - they were very nice to us about that (we were thoroughly embarrassed) - the server just caught up to us with the bill in her hand smiling. We were glad they realized it was an honest mistake. Such a great spot!!More
