Lunch at Gandarias located in the San Sebastian oldest district The beef chop is probably the best and tastiest I’ve ever eaten. It comes from what they call an old Rubia Gallega cow. Very good wines and starters such as the famous Joselito bellota ham

Very popular. Always a queue. We had a brief tapas lunch. Lucky to time it right and get an outside table with no real wait. Excellent tapas washed down with vino tinto. Nothing not to like.

After reading a blog about which restaurant to visit in the Old Town for a great Txuleta steak - Gandarias did not disappoint. Pass the busy Pintxos bar into the seated dining area to be greeted by a kind and humble waiter. The restaurant vibe...is a little fine dining, but most people are fairly casual and you wouldn’t feel out of place dressed up, or not. It was nice that our waiter didn’t try to up sell the most expensive wine on the menu and instead told us what would go well with our steak. The STEAK! Amazing, mouth watering and tender. Complimented perfectly with home made fries. No sauce or compliments needed. Also recommend the cheese platter - we did ask for something sweet to cut the flavour of 4 very strong cheeses and they happily have ya some honey to enjoy it with. Would definitely return. Pricey but worth it!More

. Pintxo culture is very common in Spain, (mostly pre-dinner snacks known as tapas in Turkey.) especially starts before than late dinners. San Sebastian, one of the main centers of gastronomy, is famous for Pintxo bars in the Donostia Region. Gandarias offers many options out of the lunch and dinner hours. Especially the pintxo they present with salmon on sauced crab is quite tasty. It would be a good alternative if you prefer fish-based choices instead of fried products. €2-2,5 / per piece.More

This establishment was recommended by the owner of the pension where I was staying. It has a separate pintxos bar and restaurant. I chose the restaurant as it was less crowded. I enjoyed the duck, it was flavorful and cooked carefully. They have a nice...wine list as well.More

Very busy on a Sunday afternoon but still easy to find a table outside and quickly grab a pintxo and drink inside. We can specifically for the sea urchin and it did not disappoint. It is more like a sea urchin salad with some veggies...mixed in and some crunchy bits and roe on top. 2 house reds, 2 sea urchins = 10 euro. Would recommend.More

Excellent tapas and great service! I'm still dreaming about the gambas I had. The woman behind the bar was really helpful in making recommendations and took time to talk to us about what we liked and didn't. My wife and I decided to come here for the Basque steak as it was open before some of the other pintxos places. It is a manic busy restaurant and we recommend that of you can squeeze a space at the standing side tables, do...so. Try not let inconsiderate French people muscle you out. We opted for the Basque txuleta steak @ €40/kg. Our steak came in at €45 which was amazing value. You don't get the option of how it's cooked, it comes rare and its all the better for it. It comes with some chips and also a big basket of bread. The bread is definitely not needed. The steak as you'd expect is amazing quality and tastes unlike anything you get in most British establishments. You can tell it comes from an old beast and is amazingly tender. The golden fat is out of this world. If coming here, avoid the pintxos and head for the steak.More
