We were expecting quite something after finding out this one actually came up in the Michelin guide. We were however met with unwelcoming bright lights, inexperienced staff and not always good food: the cod was a disaster, the Iberian pork quite good, the bread of...yesterday but the wines were great. Michelin must have been applying different standards here..More

We found this place randomly in trip advisor. The dishes turned out to be so good that we added orders and the four of us tried 13 dishes in total, plus 3 desserts. It was great that they offered half portions so we got to...try more. I would recommend the peas, squid noodles, hake kokotxa and pigeon. Others are good too, but these are the biggest surprises. Good food, great service with smile-wearing staff and super good value for money.More

Located in the Amelia Hotel it takes a bit of the particular mania ce of a smaller restaurant However the dining room is large and calm and yo can have a conversation without being bothered by other noise. So this is a plus and no...« screaming » necessary . We arrived with 3 other parties in front of us so the start was slow as it seems that only the Maître d’H can take the orders ( even for basics like contains and mineral water) . So this was a set back as a start. But then it only got better. Full attention and explanation of dishes, and from there good timing between the plates. We chose all « à la carte » ( but there are different set menus) and were not disappointed. Since we paired wine and food the recommendations were excellent. Choice of dishes proved great, appetizing and visually attractive Turned out to be a good evening and although not cheap is much better price /quality the other renown places. Needs a little more t make it a one star... however a return would be very likely on my next trip. See picsMore

I was visiting this hotel as part of a large arrangement. We had the a eight courses menu. The service was friendly and focused alhough not all staff understood English. Nevertheless, there was enough of staff that this was not a problem. The courses was...obviously very Spanish inspired and very tasty. This is an excellent restaurant and I will definately go there again.More

Dinner here was excellent. Wonderful amuse bouche, fabulous starters and mains and supper dessert. Staff were lovely and efficient. The table was a proper size so one never felt squashed up. Altogether a great evening.

Booked this on short notice and was a little nervous because there was only one other table occupied when we arrived. I shouldn’t have been worried as it fills up on the late side. The food was delicious with great subtlety and distinction in the...flavours. It’s the type of food you eat slowly in order to savour the flavours and textures. We were treated to both an amuse bouche and a post-dessert treat which were nice touches. The service was very attentive without being overbearing. It was not cheap, but we thought it was worth the price.More

This grand old lady's star may have lost its lustre, but there is still an elegance about her. The food was good and the price surprisingly reasonable. Service was impeccable. Worth a revisit.

The setting is pleasant at the base of the Melia hotel in the heart of Bilbao. The dining area is modern and spacious though not particularly special and has a bit of a hotelish feel. The decor and music are a bit generic and don’t...really add to the experience. They offer 3 tasting menus and an a la carte menu. We chose the larger of the tasting menus and weren’t disappointed with some excellent cooking. There were flashes of brilliance including a miso marinated venison and a charcoal grilled octopus. I thoroughly enjoyed a desert based around the textures of tangerine with included an amazing citrus macaron atop a tangerine sorbet and foam. Although very good, the menu lacked many standout dishes and a couple were mediocre including the amuse bouche. The staff were very nice and attentive. There are plenty of fine dining restaurants in Bilbao and this deserves to be amongst them however without some tweaks I couldn’t say it is truly exceptional.More

We stayed at the Melia Hotel in Bilbao and ate at restaurant Aizian located in the ground floor. The restaurant is elegant and the food matches the surroundings. We chose the prix fixe Executive lunch and it was excellent. The food was imaginatively presented and of...high quality. What's more the meal included a fine bottle of red Rioja wine and water as well as coffee. We found the meal excellent value for money and would go back.More

We were staying at the Melia. So that made our decision even easier. After we read the Aizian menu, there was no question. We wanted to dine here. And we were extremely happy with our decision to do so. We had the tasting menu and...were quite happy with all the choices and the wine. Also, the service was uniformly superb. Not even one tiny hiccup. Do yourself a favor. Get a reservation for Aizian when in Bilbao.More
