OVERALL: A local pintxos bar with good food, neighborhood people, and friendly service. Not on the tourist path. A good to go next time I’m in Bilbao. CONTEXT: If you want to hang out with locals on a warm Fall Sunday afternoon, this is your...place. Small bar style interior with 3-4 4 person tables outside, they serve tasty pintxos with a cool beverage. HOW TO START: Don’t hesitate. The owner is known to be friendly though the look on their face may not say so immediately. Once you start plating, it’s all good from there. PEOPLE WATCH: Local groups of older friends or multi-generational families gathering to grab a bite and chat. VIBE: Local and relaxed. Eat, drink, and chill. LANGUAGE: Spanish is helpful but I suspect point-and-eat is equally welcomed.More

When a restaurant is the #1 rated Bilbao restaurant in TripAdvisor — as Bar Roma is — you expect to be wowed. We were not and honestly cannot fathom how it became so highly rated. There are several types of pintxos arrayed atop the bar...and you simply tell the staff which items you would like. We had several bocadillos and montaditos, as well as a slice of tortilla española, most of them fine, but several showed signs of sitting atop the counter (unrefrigerated) perhaps a bit too long and none of them stood out. The space rates somewhere between “workman-like” and “quaint” — a long bar which extends virtually the length of the space, with two small tables for two and bar seating for everyone else. All that said, we should also note that the staff was very kind and accommodating.More

We went there thanks to Trip Advisor It was pretty quiet when we arrived We were able to sit at the front of the bar We had so many good pinchos... My absolute favourite was the spicy gilda I also had the tuna one and...the leek one And the one with shrimps and peppers and onions dices that too was very tasty My husband had the bonito, then the pulpo & shrimp pincho , then the egg pincho We also had one with zucchini tomato cheese And then the best piece of cheesecake i have had in ages, and I do say I make a great cheesecake myself. It was so moist And then we had the local wine Txaoli It is very good All in all a great dinnerMore

Four of us visited, 1 meat-eater, 1 pescatarian, 2 vegetarians. No booking but still accommodated at around 8.30pm. Excellent food, both quality and choice. Really good Rioja + white & rose. Very reasonable prices. The owner/manager was friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommend this little gem.

Super place. Small and intimate, we had use of the upstairs dining room which had just one table all for us! The pinto's were lovely and fresh and very reasonably priced as was the drink. 10/10

This became our ‘go to ‘ place for a drink and pintxos while we were in Bilbao for a week .Lovely food and friendly staff .

Found Cafe Roma because of reviews I'd seen on here. The Rioja was fantastic as was the txakoli. I had four lots of the spicy gilda and a few jamon bocadillos and the whole lot came to €16. Would definitely recommend. Nice little local place.
