Wow, the reviews are all right. We went on a saturday evening & managed to get a spot at the bar, boy were we lucky, within minutes the place was packed and you could just about squeeze your way through to go to the toilet or outside for a cigarette, food is is passed around to get to it's destination & most people offer you some of theirs to sample, your bill is written in chalk on the bar. Food, service & ambience is fantastic. A must do if in Malaga

what more does one need to satisfy the hunger and thirst? Though it is highly listed, they remained modest and authentic. We ordered so many things, the waiter almost stopped me from going on and on.....so we could samples most of the dishes - all were exceptional for really ridiculous prices. We appreciate this, especially now at Covid times were I am certain the traffic there is much slower. Vermut is fantastic! Thanks, we will for sure be back.

One of the best tapas bars in Malaga located in the heart of the city, here you can enjoy tapas and wine in a relaxed atmosphere, however, this place can get really busy during evenings and weekends due to the quality of food here.
Tapas at La Tranca is simple but excellent, this bar will provide good portions of delicious tapas for cheap prices, very good value for money.

This small tapas restaurant is a best tapas experience we have in Malaga! You could choose from a variety of tapas, we shared a lot of them together with friends. Cousine in here is so delicious and I would say, you should go and try it! We got recommendation from our tour guide to go there and we were so satisfied with a food and also prices are really cheap. There was a lot of local people after 1 pm and if you like sweet wine, you should try local dulce vino, it is so nice!

We visited this bar during a short trip to Málaga, and really enjoyed the experience. The vermouth was exceptional according to a leading authority (my wife), and the tapas were outstanding too. I would highly recommend La Trance to anyone looking for an authentic experience at great prices!

We have been coming here for over 7 years,and still is our favourite place.It is so atmospheric,serving tasty tapas at great prices.
The staff are the best we have found,this bar is always busy and they are super efficient, friendly and fun.
If you want a fun night out in Màlaga and want a great experience with tasty tapas and Spanish music,then La Tranca is the perfect place.
Get there early it is very popular and deserves to be.

Mixed View on this one !
We had seen the reviews and was in Malaga for 6 nights had passed by on 3 occasions to go in but there was always a large que. On our Last night we were a little earlier (7pm) and walked straight in. I know this may sound strange, but I didn't like the 'authentic' noisy, busy bar area. with only an option of standing around a barrel to eat our meal. Fortunately there was a barrel with two seats just outside, and was happy to sit there in some comfort and enjoy the atmosphere from inside. Another 'strange' dislike of mine was that the menu was completely Spanish and there was no WiFI to allow us to choose from a translated menu. The Waitress was very attentive and helpful and chose for us after asking our Tapas preferences. The Food and Wine was OK, but no better than we had previously enjoyed in other Restaurants with much lower ratings, although it was slightly less expensive. I thought the chalking the bill on the barrel was a bit gimmicky, as it was impossible to read, and we were shown the hand written bill anyway.

El Tranca is one of the best cafes in town. It's not only staff, who are very friendly and still very professional with a quick service, it's also the quality of the drinks and food , they serve one of the best tapas in town. they play excellent music which fits with the ambiance of specific times. So there is an ongoing friendly and festive atmosphere and you always feel very welcome. Though it can be crowded in the late afternoon and during weekends, and the majority of the guests are Malagueňos or Spanish, most of them are very friendly to 'extranjeros' and even speak some words in English. In the after work hours it's common to sing along with the popular songs and even dance. And even then the music is not that loud that it disturbs your conversations or introducing love words to that nice little 'guapa' next to you at the bar. (Don't forget her partner is still outside, smoking with his friends).

It is like stepping back in time when you visit this bar. When we have friends to visit we have brought them to visit this bar and they love the atmosphere, which is so authentic. The tapas is great and you can get a good plate of jamon for around 12 euro. The waiter chalks up your order on the doors. Love this place, although can be hard to get a seat as it's always busy.

Pub and bar hopping around this area of the city my twin brother Stephen and I chanced upon La Tranca and what a great find.
Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here ,the interior is so traditional ,a cool looking serving bar ,wonderful features throughout this bar ,loved the vintage vinyl covers and bullfighting prints and photo's,there's great tiling features and glass topped counters showcasing the tapa on offer,barrel tables and lots of seating ,it's just the best bar in this district of Malaga we visited.
We were here on a late afternoon ,temperatures in the 90's,August weather was amazing ,greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of the bar team ,we ordered vermut's ,these were served in no time at all,we found a place to sit and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular bar .
We are both big fans of vermut ,it's such a refreshing beverage ,for anyone not familiar with vermut it's a strong,fortified wine infused with herbs,spices and botanicals and aged in barrels when served with olives or a slice of orange as in this bar it's one of the best drinks around and trust me the vermut served in here was really good,it was just so good being in such a great bar enjoying a quality vermut.
We both loved our vermut's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to La Tranca we were totally impressed.
La Tranca is easy to locate along Calle Carreteria.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday ,open from midday till very late.
A great bar in a fantastic location,a bar I highly recommend you seek out if you're in the area.

Stopped in for a glass of wine and light bite and the food was not disappointing. However, the service was uneven and weird: I had to wait for 15 minutes before the waitress who was speaking with the guests sitting next to me to finish her conversation and take my order and then she acted like it was an imposition. I waited another 10 minutes for water and a glass of wine. The place was NOT busy or filled as I was there early in the afternoon. Once the food came, the chill of the waitress had warmed and now she was smiling and happy to serve me.
It is a cute little place and I love that when you request the check they write it on the wall with chalk. There are cool old posters of movies on the walls and the music added a great vibe.
the shishito peppers were delish as was the pork.

You really do need to go here for a meal if you're in Malaga - you may have to wait for a table/seat but it's 100% worth doing so.
The food was really tasty, cheap, and with generous portion sizes.
The staff were incredible - friendly, helpful, cheerful and happily explained what dishes were gluten free.
It can get a bit cramped and a bit busy but that's just a sign of how good this place is.

There has been a common theme with some of the rave reviews, and that word is "cheap". This is a neighborhood tapas bar with young locals singing along with the music. If that's your thing, you will enjoy. The tapas are in fact cheap but really nothing to speak about. My wife's avocado was brown and barely edible and my empanada's hard and not too tasty. Wine, well you can get a bottle for the cost of a glass elsewhere. Again, you get what you pay for. Look at my other reviews and you will see that this is an anomaly.

You definately did not understand La Tranca, Joe. Not our atmosphere, neither our global service (endorsed by more than a thousand excelent opinions). Besides having a recognized quality in our gastronomy, we have honest prices (of what we are very proud of, in comparision with other places who cannot say the same). Friendly ambience, joy, great gastronomy and one of the best teams in town, everything for frank and low prices. None will believe you if you are not objective in your comments. Long life to La Tranca and to all of the trancosos who enjoy us!

Great bar with good variety of tapas. The place was packed all time so a lot of atmosphere , noise. Food was decent enough but the experience is the key thing. Be prepared for no tables, you eat at the bar or the counter across from it. You shout or point your order and the server brings it over. At the end the bill is totted up with chalk on the counter. If you like a place with energy, this is the spot

Probably the most characteristic and original place on our tour of Andalusia. The choice of tapas is not huge but the products are well prepared, fresh and overall of excellent quality. Sangrilla is not excellent in taste and intensity, beer is better. Small place, very cheap prices, friendly and fast service, drinks at the counter elbow to elbow with other diners or on small wine barrels used as tables. Spanish music and group singing accompany the entire dinner in carefree joy.
