We ate well here. It was not haute cuisine but it was authentic German fare and good quality. The service was very pleasant, too.

Sitting outside in a cosy corner of a lovely little town square in a restaurant Goethe frequented and recommended was awesome enough but the food was even better. We had Wiener schnitzel, Thüringer sausage and a vegetarian celery schnitzel. All three of us agreed that...More

This restaurant serves regional specialties and is great for anyone wanting to experience German food in an authentic environment. However, The restaurant changed management several years ago and unfortunately, the food isn't as good as it used to be.

We have ordered the Thuringian sausage with sauerkraut and sliced dumplings with eggs. The dumplings were so salty we had to stop eating half way. Pockets of salt crystals, literally. The sauerkraut was swimming in heavy cream. We were very disappointed.More

The tavern 'Zum weißen Schwan' is closely intertwined with the history of Weimar itself, the one of Hotel Elephant and the one of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The Swan, how locals lovingly nicknamed it, is only a few minutes' walk from Hotel Elephant. As Goethe once mentioned in a letter of 1827: "The swan welcomes everyone warmly and with open wings". Nothing has changed since then, and 'The Swan' still is the perfect place to savour the best of original Thuringian specialties.
