I read josebenjamin's comments. We did not need an English menu so I cannot comment upon what happened there. In fact, I didn't even know that there were English menus as it's very German. My colleague wanted Flammkuchen and I felt like Tafelspitz. the menu was not all that extensive but this is a 24-hour restaurant, so I can understand... More

At the very end of our recent four week trip through Germany and Poland, we found ourselves in Mainz trying to find a good restaurant for a last meal in Europe. Our hotel staff recommended this restaurant and we decided to give it a try. Initially we had a good impression since it offered a menu in English, we also... More

Good down to earth food, daily specials, naturally nice wine selection of different wine regions of Germany. In the afternoon they offer a typical Kaffeeklatsch (coffee & cakes, pastry). If you are in the neighborhood go to enjoy

I was a bit disappointed by this restaurant. They had a good seasonal selection of German and regional food but the overall choice didn't quite meet my expectations. The quality was good but didn't knock me of the chair. There is a huge selection of open wines so you don't need to get a bottle but still everybody get to... More

During our recent trip to Mainz, we enjoyed Haus des Deutschen Weines so much that we had dinner there three times. The first time was with a large group of business colleagues; the second and third times there were just three of us. The service at our first two visits was excellent: attentive, friendly, and helpful. At our third visit,... More

This is an elegant restaurant with very good purely German food. Not to be missed if you are a foreign tourist in Germany. I had an excellent dish of calf liver, which strangely enough is not appreciated in some countries like Australia. The desserts were beautiful.

The wine selection is very good, as is the food - mostly conservative interpretations of classical dishes. I prefer to frequent the HDW in the warmer months to be able to sit outside - the interior is not quite to my taste.

Had a wonderful meal and delicious wine and beer. We were a family of five and the cost was very affordable - for someone used to paying New York prices! Really nice decor and relaxed atmosphere.

We were looking for a restaurant to have lunch but did not see any thing that stuck our fancy. So, we stopped a lady that looked local and asked for her recommendation. She said tat HDW was one of the best in the area. Service: She was correct. Despite English being a little light, we received excellent service. I mention... More

The HDW is an institution in Mainz. For dinner You should make reservations or even for a glass of wine and a local snack after an performance in the Theatre/ Staatstheater next door. The show theatre, opera and ballet. The HDW is open late and has a good veriety of local food. In the summer they have outside seating.

Thank Angelika S
