Wanted to sample some authentic Turkish food whilst in Hamburg and chose Koz Ocakbasi based on a mix of the Trip Advisor reviews and the fact that it was busy with locals - always a good sign. Certainly can't fault the food which was freshly...cooked in the open kitchen, really tasty and extremely plentiful. However as a few others suggest, the service was haphazard at best and bordering rude almost to the point where it was funny! If you wantMore

We have lately fell in love with Turkish food and during our 3 night holiday we stumbled across Köz Ocakbasi. After reading a mix of reviews (80% good) we thought we would try it. IT WAS AMAZING. Though the waiter struggled with our English he...was incredibly helpful and polite pointing out good dishes (the menu came with pictures which was helpful) and giving us the thumbs up or the maybe sign on certain dishes. Don’t be scared off by the non English menu, it’s 100% worth it. One of the locals even pointed out that this was the best Turkish restaurant in Hamburg. Thank you Dan and BeccaMore

The food was amazing.- However the service was a rude especially when they found out we were from Greece. When we asked for an english menu the waiter answered in German: "here in not greece, read German" as we were informed by a German speaker...who was with us.More

Whenever we go for a movie at the Savoy, we have dinner at Koz Ocakbasi before or after. It can get packed and loud, but none of us have ever been disappointed with the food! The menu is nicely put together, something for everybody, large...and small plates. Nice staff, too!More

Most incredible Turkish meals, made from fresh and honest ingredients. Best seasoned meat, prepared on charcoal grill. All freshly prepared, while enjoying tasty appetisers.

The menus are illustrated, which greatly assists anyone who doesn’t speak English or Turkish. When my travel companion ordered, the waiter shook his head and pointed to something else - he subsequently acquiesced to this suggestion; with my order he nodded, with subtle blend of...smirk and frown worn on his face. I ordered one beer, he felt inclined to bring another, along with a friendly pat on the back. My friend’s meal could easily be distinguished as chicken and polenta; mine was under a sea of red sauce and yoghurt, with a lavishing of mystery meat. All of the above was complimented with a side of salad, pittas and sauce. I have no idea what we really ate and there was no working dialogue with the waiters. We ate until we were full and left very happy, which was aided by Turkey’s answer to “The Voice” - whose voices reduced me to tears of joy. Top shelf kebab house.More

Arrived late into Hamburg and researched this place prior to our visit. It was just round the corner from our hotel. We arrived at 23.30 and they were busy. Service was friendly and efficient, think we were the only non locals. Food was excellent, we...got some salad, bread and dips to start with. Both had a kebab with minced lamb and they were both great. Particularly liked the aubergine kebab. We had beers and a complimentary shot at the end of the meal. Lovely start to a short break in Hamburg thinking of one of our favourite cities (sorry Hamburg but you have nothing on Istanbul 😊).More

Good place for dinning. We have eaten doner kabab with turkish ayran. Very good but waiters are stupid and intrusive- when me ordered doners without garlic, they said ok and bring with garlic.
