I went with a ton of Germans, so this one was a bit tricky linguistically for me, but that's the fun - it's a legit, local bar in the East side. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and I got one of the few existing Schwarze Pumpe t-shirts available. I'd say in particular, this area of Berlin is great if you're a... More

A friend recommended this place for breakfast, we went there for lunch.. the person that served us wasn't overly friendly but maybe it was a communication problem? there was an English menu but the menu was quite limited, I had meat soup, it was nice. The place was clean and had nice loos.. I probably wouldn't return.

Dropped in for a late lunch after multiple hours of sightseeing because it was close to our apartment. A great local find with excellent service, well prepared, fresh food and a relaxing local ambiance. Menu options include some daily specials along with the standard offerings. Food and beverage prices were very reasonable. I've paid a lot more for a much... More

Visited here twice for drinks on our trip. The bar looks old but then you go to the toilets and they are spotlessly clean and modern. It's a lovely relaxing bar with lots of outdoor seating.

Went here with family as it was late and near hotel. Great find. Good food and friendly service. The waiter went through the menu in English for us and was very patient. Very helpful with German beer suggestions. Affordable and satisfying food. Went back later in the week and was just as good.

My partner and I stopped in for a late drink one evening, and the bar was packed with locals casually eating and drinking. We enjoyed the few (but excellent) draught beers on tap, had some delicious and very German food, and were lucky enough to have the owner give us the history of the building and his bar after everyone... We tried it first for late lunch - around 4:00, but the waiter told us upfront they did not have any food until 5PM or so as their kitchen is small and the cook was preparing something for the dinner. So we came back next day after 6PM, and this time the food was great, and of course there is... More

After reading the feedback of tripadvisor went to this cafe because it was in the neighborhood. Nobody was eating, and most items on the menu we could not get. The plate service was ok though, but this is definitly not a restaurant. More a nice cafe where you can stay over for dinner.

Really busy, SO cheap, but great portions. Clearly very traditional Germanic food which is what we were after. Even the chilli, which may not have been traditional, was really something - we ordered three mains (pork chops, chilli, bockwurst - first two I'd recommend) between two because it was so cheap!

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
