A really big selection of potatoes based dishes, it was fun having dinner her. Try also the desserts, still with potatoes. This restaurant doesn't take credit card payments, so remember to have cash.

The Kartoffelkeller was recommended to us by a guide book. Really good food, friendly atmosphere and great service. It's easy to miss as it is literally in a cellar! On the night we visited, the restaurant was payments by cash only - I'm not sure if this was a one off or the regular, so be aware.

Had a very nice meal here. Wide selection of potato based dishes! I had potato rosti with bacon cheese and eggs, very good portion at a reasonable price. Staff were very friendly. A tad quiet but nice for a more relaxed laid back meal.

Went here a number of years ago and was looking forward to going back again. Great potato based food and I really enjoyed the potato and bacon dish. Good beer and fast service.

Yes, the menu has a potato bias, but is still varied with meats and sausages available as part of the dishes and lets you try German food The service here was some of the most helpful and friendly I have ever known and does enhance the dining experience. The place won't win any prizes for modern decor, but is clean... More

We visited having seen it appear on TripAdvisor and happened to recognise it. Don't judge it on face value as the outside looks totally different to the inside! The interior of this place is what makes it. Although it clearly isn't as old as it seems, it felt really authentic and cosy. This place specialises in potato dishes, if it... More

A party of 10 attended this potato cellar restaurant where every dish has a potato ingredient including the sweets. I had been before and always opt for no. 38 which includes 3 meat steaks and plenty of fried potatoes. Delicious and filling. Watch out this establishment does not take card payments so you need to have cash.

We ate here twice as it was near our hotel. It was simple, good and with friendly service! Perfect, low key meals!

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
