I have been here several time, either solo,as a couple or as a group. Every time the place was busy but the staff coped really well and we weren't left waiting too long for food. When it arrived I was surprised at the size of the portions. They were extreme generous. All this and very reasonably priced.

As a rule I do not believe much in food quality at shopping center restaurants, and unfortunately this did not prove to be an exception with Kartoffelkiste. I think the schnizels which we ordered must have been frozen and pre-cooked; came to the table lukewarm and did not taste good at all. The mushroom sauce of the jägerschnizel was equally... More

Hello Jouni, we are very sorry that you did not enjoy the food at our restaurant. The schnitzel as well as the sauce are made in house though and not convenience food. We did not offer any potato dumplings in the last three weeks. Are you sure you are reviewing the correct restaurant? I hope you give us another chance,... More

This restaurant is in my opinion a tourist trap. German food as it stands is just poor food. Berlin has so many international choices you do not need to stick to German food. But if you do need to experience German food, this place is a safe bet. I did go because the rest of the group needed to so... More

If you are looking for some good hearty food in a friendly welcoming place then you could do a lot worse than this place. We had a couple of large beers and 2 main meals for around €35, pretty good for the area. I had the grilled pork knuckle and if you fancy a challenge or you just like a... More

Me and my partner enjoyed a very enjoyable meal in this restaurant during our time in Berlin, Its location just off a side road by the river is very nice. The staff where very nice, its a very typical Bavarian German resturant. GOOD BEER AND GOOD GERMAN FOOD. Your looking at about 50-60euros for a couples meal with starter, mains... More

We ended up at Kartoffelkiste by chance. We walked through Europa Centre and this place attracted our attention. Judging by number of German-speaking families that visited it during lunch hour on Christmas Day it is quite popular with locals. We ordered Goulash for me and Calf liver traditional style for my wife. I have never tried liver prepared to perfection,... More

Great, just great. Delicious, with absolutely enormous size of portions, and at all that being really inexpensive - this place has taken the lead in X-mas 2016 season in Berlin in my own chart. Nice waiters and convenient accommodation are just additional reasons to get back here again.

The wide menu is based on Potatoes in all their forms . This is hot and filling, tasty food on a cold Berlin day. The portion size if very ghenerous and when I looke around me at other tables , I saw the same generous plates, almost overflowing, and all the diner seemed to be enjoying their choices , same... Couldn't get a seat on the Sunday evening so went back on the Monday evening and easily got a table. We all enjoyed our meals which were traditionally German and very hearty portions and good value for money. Our waitress was very good and was very tolerant with our lack of German and patient with mistakes that were due to... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighbourhood Profile
Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighbourhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theatres close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
