Nice place but limited choice of beers and a very abrupt and rude staff member meant we left before dining. Too many good places in the area to be subjected to that.

Some days ago I went to Gaffelhaus in Berlin to meet some friends. It was great. They serve specialities from Cologne. Kölsch beer! I chose the "Himmel an Äd" for 10.50 Euro. The service could have been better, but it was okay.

Popped in here for some early afternoon refreshment and it had everything we could want. It is a nice, traditional looking bar/restaurant. The waitress was lovely. The beer - Kolsh - is my favourite German beer by a country mile, and was perfect. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. What's not to like?

Came here on the recommendation of our hotel concierge. It is definitely a busy place, full of locals. Heard very little English. Service very pleasant and friendly. Food was somewhat disappointing, just not as good as the two other evenings in Berlin, at fairly similarly priced places. Sauerbraten was ok, but I've had better in the US! Apfelstrudel was a... Flammkuchen was good, beer was also good. Takes credit cards. Empty around noon, despite being in pretty popular area.

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
