I cannot understand why Germans eat in their restaurants! Try this little friendly 100% Italian restaurant, get a bottle of Sagrantino (great wine from Montefalco, Umbria) choose "carpaccio with truffles" "calamaretti alla diavola" and you'll understand what I mean! We left this place 30 minutes ago and wrote this review as soon as we got to our hotel! Highly recommended.

This restaurant is in the mitte area. It has a cosy atmosphere with some special pictures on the walls. The staff are friendly. The food here is quite average and a bit expensive.

We had a fantastic meal here during our visit to Berlin. The food was exceptional from our starters through to dessert, all four of us ordering different options at each course and all very happy. An extensive choice of fantastic wines to accompany our meals - we were thrilled. The staff were all very friendly and the atmosphere was lively,... More

My wife and I were on a short city break in the wonderful city of Berlin and happened to be staying in apartments next door to Sagrantino. As we are both partial to Italian food we decided to give it a go despite not being able to find a menu on their website. When we entered the restaurant it certainly... More

We, four persons, had many different foods, and were quite satisfied. For example, my vitella tonnato and lasagne were ok, also carpaccio tertufo and entrecote etc. Red wine was also good. So, we were quite happy, but not thrilled. Servive was ok; the price for four persons (antipasti, one pasta, three secondi, sparklin wine & red wine) was 230 euros.... More

An Italian style restaurant with apparent Italian staff, that helps when you hope to eat real italian food. A cozy atmosphere and a warm welcome. Busy place so you might consider a reservation if you want to eat on popular hours. Dont expect anything high end or fancy, but its more about the food and simplicity of real Italian kitchen.... We had a great meal here on a busy Saturday evening. Got in before the rush and ordered the starters and mains, the starters arrived and then we waited an age for the mains, we were told there had been a mix up in the kitchen but had the feeling we were not the only ones waiting a long time.... We were lucky to have this restaurant around the corner from the hotel so we enjoyed great breakfasts which are good value for money at €19 x person for an all you can eat buffet and really good dinners (I'd recommend the pasta with truffle). Very friendly and efficient service too but best to book as it is always full.

I passed by this restaurant on various occasions during my past stays in Berlin. This time around, I did venture in and I'm very glad that I did. I loved its coziness, family-run feel and the friendliness of the staff who mostly hailed from Tuscany and Umbria. The range and variety of Umbrian wines available at this place is simply... More

The Sagrantino is a wonderful, creative concept combining a wine bar, restaurant, web portal for the many oenological and cultural attractions in the Sagrantino region, with plenty of other surprises in store including its links with the music programmes at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Berlin State Opera) and the Komische Oper Berlin (Berlin Comic Opera). The culinary delights of this innovative, artistic meeting place are popular with the many (well-connected) fans of the Sagrantino and includes traditional Italian fare such as Stuzzichini, Carpaccio, Zuppa, Pasta, Insalate, Desserts, plus Degustazione, Breakfasts, Business Lunches and other little extras, and of course excellent wines from the Sagrantino region, all at very reasonable prices.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
