We went on a Sunday evening because we'd heard very good things about this place. The environment was interesting, a huge hall with stage at the front. Even though it was December, there were people eating and drinking outside--under cover though I believe. We were...seated inside, at a table with two locals, who were friendly enough but we didn't strike up a conversation (sometimes you do, sometimes you don't...).
I did find the menu more limited than I would have liked. I ended up with schnitzel and potato salad, which were good, but I would have preferred more choice of sides and salads. Husband had something else, not memorable but ok. Beer (dunkel) was good. We shared an apfel strudel for dessert, very apple-y, lots of nice spice and a thin vanilla sauce. Hard to get a cup of tea--choices not mentioned on the menu, so one expects black tea, but first we got a fruit tea and then Earl Grey was substituted, so that was weird. Service was not warm or particularly polished, the guy was clearly not loving being there. It was busy but not crazy busy. (We know good European service is slower and less "pally" than the standard in North America. This wasn't just that.)
We did pay by credit card, and were surprised that there was awkwardness around the tip, which was set much higher than you'd expect.More
