We found the facility itself to be the star of our visit. Truly worth seeing and having a meal. If you are unsure of the atmosphere with tourists, come early. Eating either outside or in the basements is memorable. If I lived in Munich, this...could be on the rotation! The beer is excellent and the pretzels are Munich Pretzels (my favorite). We enjoyed the food and although the initial seating was awkward and not "english" friendly, our waiter was (learned he was Croatian). He really made the evening and helped navigate German wines and the menu. Would definitely go back, but I will be less concerned about not speaking German or the "not tourist friendly" you will hear. Like everything else in Germany, they are like that until they choose not to be like that depends on what suits them! So, you should too. Enjoy. Overall, on my list to return and worth a try.More

We went twice to Augustiner-Keller during our stay in Munich. Our first night there, it was a bit overwhelming, and seemed less friendly (in terms of staff). But it was also our first night in Munich, and the first biergarten we tried. We went again...on our last night, as after visiting so many places, this was where we wanted to spend our final evening in the city. Perhaps we had adjusted to they way things are run generally, but it seemed friendlier the 2nd time. Both times we had amazing food, great wine and beer, and were seated with friendly German tourists eager for talk. This place is huge, and overwhelming, but give it a try -- Now that I have visited so many biergartens, I highly recommend this one. There are large wooden communal tables and a fast-moving staff. For the number of people served, I am going to have to say the service is pretty awesome. Our waiters did not speak much English, but understood "allergies" and went to find a translator to make sure our meals were safe for us. Delicious! And it feels like you've gone back a couple of centuries. A real experience. Highly recommended.More

Despite being in a tourist hotspot they are not very tourist friendly - or maybe they only want German tourists? The menu was only available in German and the waitress never spoke English despite clearly understanding it. Food was bland but ok. Not the friendliest...place in the world.More

Great place to check out the after work atmosphere of this beautiful city. Diner quite fine. Philip was very reactive and helpful in finding a good table for a single lady. Highly recommended!

If you want the German bier garden center experience this is where you should go. Good beer and good food in a typical German ambient. Just as advertised.

Very crowded bar garden. Service was kind of slow because of the crowds but we absolutely loved it! Food and beer selection was fantastic! Highly recommend the Pork Ribs very good pair with the fresh beer on tap!

The 75cl bottle of water costed us 7.20€...and the waiter unfortunately forgot to mention it :/Otherwise the food was fine but too expensive for what it was. Terribly disappointed overall.

We went there on our way back from Vienna to Switzerland. The place itself is a unique Bavarian experience--spacious beer garden and two sections: one with table service and other with self-service. We went to the self service area and the serving staff were quite...cold and indifferent. But at the end, we went there for food and the food was great. But compared to other similar food places, we felt it was a little over-priced. Perhaps, the restaurant keep the prices up because of it's name? and people would pay that price for the experience? Overall, it was a mixed feeling of this place. Not sure whether would go here again.More

Nice places to drink in a huge garden. Without the oktoberfest we had the feel of it. Nicest place for a late night drink.

I believe the reservations apply to the Keller building (inside) for sure and possibly for the waiter-service (tables with table cloths in a marked off section) section of the garden. But part of the fun is watching your... More
