Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a lovely evening celebrating my mother's 80th birthday. The food was delicious and the waitress was really friendly. She gave us a free dessert which was a nice touch! The outside area with the huts and log burners is amazing and looked fabulous in...the evening when it was lit up. Really nice atmosphere, you felt like you were in the countryside although you were in central Munich! Would definitely recommend.More

Food was average The waiter was terrible. Spent more time on his friends then the tables he was serving. Double charged for tea and he still did not get it right. I am sure most of the waiters are good there but it speaks poorly...of management when such bad service goes unnoticed.More

We ate and drank outside and had a great and sociable evening in a very traditional Bavarian environment. The mass beers are very filling but don’t encourage drunkenness (as least not quickly!) so there remains a safe and friendly atmosphere throughout the evening

We went on a Sunday evening because we'd heard very good things about this place. The environment was interesting, a huge hall with stage at the front. Even though it was December, there were people eating and drinking outside--under cover though I believe. We were...seated inside, at a table with two locals, who were friendly enough but we didn't strike up a conversation (sometimes you do, sometimes you don't...). I did find the menu more limited than I would have liked. I ended up with schnitzel and potato salad, which were good, but I would have preferred more choice of sides and salads. Husband had something else, not memorable but ok. Beer (dunkel) was good. We shared an apfel strudel for dessert, very apple-y, lots of nice spice and a thin vanilla sauce. Hard to get a cup of tea--choices not mentioned on the menu, so one expects black tea, but first we got a fruit tea and then Earl Grey was substituted, so that was weird. Service was not warm or particularly polished, the guy was clearly not loving being there. It was busy but not crazy busy. (We know good European service is slower and less "pally" than the standard in North America. This wasn't just that.) We did pay by credit card, and were surprised that there was awkwardness around the tip, which was set much higher than you'd expect.More

Waiter was lovely to us. Friendly and attentive even though we didn’t speak German. Food was great and came out quickly. The atmosphere was wonderful, filled with people but no so loud you had to shout to be heard. I would come again and recommend...the visit to anyone. Glad we came!More

Evening diner with work colleagues. Very loud and overcrowded cellar, not the place to have a decent conversation over dinner. Diner was ok but not more then that. The service is not at all friendly and rather rude. There are definitely restaurants where you get...more for your money. All in all, a disappointment and not worth visiting again.More

Not much to say. Excellent beer, OK beerhall food. Service the usual pretty efficient unless the place really busy.

We stumbled upon this restaurant near Hauptbahnhof on our first day in Munich. Warm setting and friendly staff. I speak some German and did my best, but the staff were friendly and also spoke English. The food was delicious! My son got venison filets, I...had Wiener schnitzel and my husband had a sampler of wurst. So yummy! Beer of course was great. It was a just the right place to start our stay.More

My colleagues and I came here after a long work day for some drinks and dinner and had a great time. It was packed in the early evening and there was no one helping to sit people so we had to jump on a dirty...table as soon as others left. Our server was slow to come speak to us, but once we ordered he was efficient. I ordered the sausage plate with a side pretzel and it was excellent. We also had several of their house Augustiner beers and each one was great. The location is also perfect right next to Marianplatz and the old town. I look forward to coming back.More

As one of the very first beer garden we went to in Munich, we totally gorged on beer, pork, and pretzel. The beer is lovely, the food is amazing, and the staff are all lovely. Truly great experience and would recommend this to anyone .

We came here for lunch and were not disappointed. The cordon blue and pfefferschnitzel were delicious, and the Augustiner weissbier was the best beer we've had. Inside the restaurant, it looked like a very traditional Bavarian beer hall with dark wood decor and mounted game....The service was efficient and friendly. Definitely recommended!More

Had a lovely meal in Augustiner after a recommendation from our hotel. The owner came round and introduced himself to everyone and had a chat at each table which we thought was a nice touch. We were in a back room which was nice and...cosy however there was a band playing in the main room if we had known that and able to book it looked amazing fun !More

Augustiner is one of the largest and most popular pubs in Munich located just a few steps away from Marienplatz. It has large indoor halls and a busy biergarten outside. The food was perfect: Leberknödelsuppe, Leberkäse, Weisswurst and brezels - all very tasty. The beer...was great too. The only drawback was our waiter, lazy and arrogant lad: he was intentionally delaying his precious visits to our table while chatting with his colleagues.More

I had so much meat I didn't know what it all was. There was pork knuckle and duck in there and a few sausages. Great food, very filling. The Augustiner beer was crisp and delicious, but I preferred the dark lager. The space is massive...inside and out. Unfortunately the weather was dreary and rainy so the beirgarten was closed. Only complaint is that the staff were eager to turn the tables over and get people out.More
