Big portions, German kitchen, was good for my taste. I also liked the location - to sit on the pedestrian street.

This is my restaurant of choice in Bayreuth outside of the hotel. An excellent variety to choose from. The specialties include crackling pork shoulder at dinner & White sausage breakfast, both of which I love. Another reason it's my favorite is the awesome staff with a good attitude. I feel at home. They even accommodate customers who have particular cravings... More

I met some colleagues here for lunch while we were in town for the day just before Christmas. The place was very busy which we took to be a good sign. The menu mainly consists of traditional German dishes. The staff were rather casual and a bit stand-offish. Although we got to order drinks quite quickly, and received them relatively... More

First I was in Oskar in late June for a lunch before heading back to Berlin. The place is what one expects from a traditional German restaurant (at least in my opinion) - the menu is classic and you can never be wrong with potato dumpling and some well-done pork. The service was extremely nice and friendly. We returned to... More

Very big, quite loud, delicious food. That would be the basic summary. Whenever visiting in the proper season, try some of the mushroom with dumpling dishes, those are amazing! Nice selection of beers, not so great of wines.

Myself and colleagues have visited Oskar annually, outside of the festival season, for some ten years. It was recommended by students at the University as the best place to eat in Bayreuth and has never disappointed. The menu is meat heavy with lots of sauerkraut, dumplings, potatoes. That is, what most of us foreigners consider typical German food. My colleague... More

We visited Oskar two weeks ago. Restaurant was recommended by the local people. The food is excellent. Everything we tried was great. Generally I don't prefer pork, but all specialties with pork are good. Criticism of the fact that our waiter got up from the table and moved to another. Then came the waitress that put us there and moved... More

Situated in the city centre of Bayreuth Oskar's is very easy to find. Very large restaurant with an upstairs for extra seating. The waiters and waitresses are dressed in typical Bavarian garb. The food is typical Bavarian fare with a wonderful array of beers to drink. We found the atmosphere to be wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable.

This is a fun place! Very rustic and Rathskeller-like setting with everyone in a good mood. We were seated with a nice view of the musicians (two guys strolling about), tables with folks that liked to sing, and half-liters of beer all around. The food was good--probably on the beer garden side. Nice young wait staff eager to serve you... More

Oskar delivers everything you would expect: Typical local food, big servings, beer, fairly dark interiors. But a few things set it out: It is on the ground floor, not in a cellar underground, there are tables outside on the nice Markt place, with little traffic, and the interiors are quite spacy - high ceiling, fair distance between the tables. Nice... More

Traditional Oskar - das Wirtshaus am Markt, is situated in the historic old town hall of Bayreuth. The restaurant accommodates visitors to the town and local clientele who enjoy a hearty feast. Here you will find young Franconian cuisine, cooked and served with passion. On the menu you will find, for example, Franconian river trout fried in lemon butter, Bayreuth meat in horseradish with a spicy sauce, or plum strudel with vanilla sauce and ice cream. Only local produce of exceptional quality is used. The clever team provides good service to the guests quickly and in a friendly manner in the rustic, light and airy welcoming interior with wooden furniture and professionally hunted antlers on the wall. When the weather is good, the beer garden is a perfect place to sit back and enjoy the Franconian specialities in the open air. Whether you are having breakfast, lunch, coffee, or an evening meal, the Oskar in Maximilianstraße (Maximilian Street) always has tasty treats on offer that manage to surprise everyone, and not just lovers of Franconian cuisine.
