3 MICHELIN Stars: Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey!
The first thing to mention about Maison Pic (in the Drôme département of southeast France) is its special atmosphere. An artfully lit room designed to cast light on the dishes, floral creations, a thick carpet that muffles the steps of a front-of-house team dressed in classic attire. Here, they serve food the old-fashioned way, on a porcelain plate under a cloche. The lofty culinary obsessions of a chef who has been dubbed "the tightrope walker of flavours" – adulation of Japan, original presentations – make themselves felt in the dishes. Anne-Sophie Pic now serves a single set menu with ten "ports of call". A member of the highly exclusive club of female three-starred chefs, she is now director of the foundation "Donnons du goût à l'enfance". Beyond her boundless talent, she is an iconic figure.

Careful presentation, attentive service, velvet setting and sometimes surprising, often exotic scents. Lots of explanations and speeches from waiters and sommeliers. Allow 5-6 hours to discover the stops and the timeless moment. Magnificent gastronomic moment. The only downsides were a slightly slow start to lunch, 2-3 small errors corrected in the launch of dishes and food and wine pairings and the food and wine formula is expensive for half glasses which are sometimes under-served more than over. served and do not allow to accompany the whole moment and the times between courses. Probably an additional formula with a full measure per dish would make sense.

This was my 2nd visit to Restaurant Pic in Valence (and thus my 2nd review of this establishment). I was curious to see how it would compare to my first lunch at Restaurant Pic about 6 months prior. I opted once again for the Voyage à 7 haltes (7 stops) menu. There was an excellent mix of 'something old, something new' but every dish on the menu has something that 'pops out', whether it is visually, or a flavour or even a texture. There were many completely new dishes as compared with my last visit. The cheese dish focused on Brie de Meaux served 2 ways, whereas last time, it was goat cheese that was the highlight of the dish. I enjoyed fish as the 'main course', or rather the 'Halte' before the cheese dish.
I was delighted to find a fairly large selection of wines by the glass to go with my lunch and my lunch guest enjoyed the non-alcoholic set drinks menu. It was truly fascinating to see the staff prepare various herbal infusions tableside and to have them explain the ingredients and process. Lunch at Restaurant Pic can be a real learning opportunity. The staff in the dining room are super friendly and take the time to explain the dishes, their ingredients and to answer questions (I am as curious as a cat and always like to ask questions so as to learn new things). Lastly, in my opinion, the lunch was reasonably priced for a restaurant of this calibre and reputation. Many thanks to the Cheffe Anne-Sophie Pic and her team for making my lunch a memorable experience.

A unique and memorable experience. The setting is refined, elegant and warm, creating an atmosphere where time seems to stand still. The staff, very professional and discreet, know how to add a touch of humor while remaining elegant. Special mention to the chef, who came to greet us twice, attentive to our well-being. The recommendations of the sommelier were perfect, making us discover two wines that really enchanted our taste buds. Each dish is a real sensory and visual exploration, presented in delicate and refined dishes.

Having to book 4 months in advance necessarily raises expectations; especially when it is a first time.
Weary, the experience was particularly disappointing for a three-star restaurant.
The imposed menu did not allow us to embark on the promised 10-stop trip.
No taste, no texture emerged from this chain with a total absence of effect waouh.
The reduced choice of meat dish (two meats proposed, pork or game...) did not help.
Throughout the course, the virtual absence of noble products is also to be regretted.
The brief appearance of a sea urchin or a scallop (literally) does not allow to hide the absence of truffles, caviar or lobster along the meal.
Access to the restaurant room by alleyways due to the work in progress does not inspire flying.
The staff were very sympathetic even if the service was perfect and not perfect.
All in all, a failed experiment, that has 410€ per diner excluding drink, we will not reproduce.

Cher Monsieur Garnier,

An experience full of false notes at Maison Pic. Everything is superb, the service, the originality and presentation of the dishes, the audacity of the combinations of tastes, mixed with a strong imprint of local products, but…
We had the 10-step Menu, with accompanying alcohol. And the failures come one after the other:
The first appetizers were not worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant, a “crispy ball of slightly ketchupped potato” and a tartlet made from a dry and tasteless pastry.
Then, a Pea Sphere accompanied by a pearl of lemon caviar that is way too acidic.
A green asparagus, accompanied by wild flowers that is too bitter, fortunately saved by the accompanying sake which softens everything.
The cartons, delicious, nothing to complain about.
Rebelotte with asparagus but this time white, deliciously cooked in its sake (again?!) but spoiled by a mousse and morels with a too pronounced almond taste.
A magnificently cooked mullet meunière, but also murdered by a white butter sauce with a much too strong liquorice taste.
As cheese, an unfortunate piece of Brie de Meaux, a dry brioche, served with a sweet and salty cheese ice cream as a failed addition.
And we finish in style with, of course, a breathtaking strawberry and rice dessert, all in balance, but also a swarm of chocolate as heavy as possible, tiring after one or two mouthfuls. And also the 3 small desserts at the end, too minty.
To summarize, serious imbalances in tastes, and a lack of generosity and umami in the dishes which is distressing. If you come to a 3 Michelin star and spend more than 1000 euros for 2 people, you expect an impeccable experience, not a festival of taste combinations that don't work. We were very disappointed.
For comparison, we had a much better experience with Yoann Conte quite recently. It’s as if everything was there, except the taste of the dishes.
I also want to point out that we were not the only table to complain about the same dishes.

Cher Monsieur,
Cordialement,

Unforgettable evening at Anne-Sophie Pic’s.
It was a real culinary experience that we had.
Quality products, that's not a surprise, explosions of flavor in the mouth, subtle and intense, surprising associations like this Brie de Meaux ice cream.
The dishes are enhanced with reductions and powerful juices.
The dressings are artistic, refined, the trompe l’oeil very successful.
The only downside, it's very personal, is the service protocol which is quite present, too much for me. This is just a detail that in no way spoils this experience.
All this takes place in a chic, sober and elegant setting, with a view of the magnificent garden

Hello,
As hoped we had a nice trip to your establishment.
As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a smiling and warm hostess, then our belongings left for the cloakroom in the arms of a very helpful boy.
In the lobby, we begin with a narrative about the history of your family and your home, then are invited to a first space to have an aperitif.
We discover a beautiful environment and an amazing sculpture with the most beautiful effect. The drinks and accompaniments surprised us with their quality and originality, as well as the word you address to us.
Afterwards we were guided to the main room where we feel great immediately, the furniture and decoration with Japanese chords are of the most beautiful effect.
Come to this journey that you have invited us to take part in, it is in the same line as the one we experienced in 2013 for our thirty years of marriage. The presentation of the dishes is always so neat, original and appetizing. They honor your know-how of flavor blends that develop in our palate, a pleasure every time renewed.
I thank you for the onomatopoeias we expressed, they were many throughout the 2h30 spent enjoying your culinary creations, only the service staff could hear the expression of our delight. By the way, you can be proud of the quality of the service by your employees who are equally dedicated, smiling and well put of their person.
You made us travel in Drôme and Ardèche, then from South to North, but also internationally with wines, all sitting comfortably in your house, congratulations.
We enjoyed the little final surprise to mark our forty years of marriage, so why don't we make an appointment in ten years?
Quite honestly,
Eric and Yolande.

The 10-step dinner was a very nice trip. Each dish was original, tasty and so just in taste and execution. An unforgettable moment.
The only downside of our stay is breakfast. Very kind or not good compared to the dinner experience. In addition, we had to settle for the French breakfast because it seems that the rates had changed since our booking and we could not have the Epicurean breakfast booked. When you know that the only difference is the eggs, it’s a bit petty considering the total cost of living ...

The trip is guaranteed. The dishes offered take us off the beaten track. Taste, sight, smell and touch are stimulated to the maximum by unexpected combinations of ordinary ingredients made noble, balanced, airy and colorful dressages, scents present enough to taste before the first mouth and texture contrasts motivating the second. The waiters by presenting each dish and remaining at our disposal for any further information take care of the 5th sense to prepare our discoveries and excite our curiosity. The caulked atmosphere and calm allow us to better immerse ourselves in this exceptional culinary world. Thanks to Anne-Sophie Pic and all her team.

We were charmed by the delicacy, detail, colors, taste and atmosphere of this lunch at Madame Pic, while perfectly balancing luxury, delicacy, kindness and discretion. Mrs Pic has done us the great honour of coming to our table.
On the other hand, we were very disappointed by the service of coffee followed by digestive at the salon: service not very attentive, and minimalist from the point of view of both service and products, white tea and herbal tea without taste, coffee and lukewarm tea. Accompanied by a single small chocolate not at all up to the wonderful meal!
We asked for sugar in pieces but after research the waiter said that he did not have it in the establishment... so we settled for the bags of powdered sugar (probably offered by the coffee supplier) presented in a ramekin worthy of a bistro.
As for the digestive: pear brandy without taste of pear, cognac well correct but both served in a way not up to the place.
We will still have an excellent memory of the meal, too bad to end on a bitter touch.

My experience at PIC Valence was marked by elaborate dishes, with superb presentations and careful staging.
However, I noticed that the sauces sometimes had no depth and sometimes were very salty.
The combination of food and wine was also a little disappointing, with a limited choice of wines from the region.
The service, although very friendly, took a while to start: we waited almost two hours for the entries and one or two entries. Still, I had fun. However, I consider the prices practiced to be slightly higher compared to the quality offered.

For our first experience at Maison Pic, we were received in a charming setting, but above all by a staff of exquisite attention. The room, elegantly decorated, gave it an intimate and refined atmosphere. The service was impeccable, with a particularly successful pairing of food and soft drinks. Each dish, meticulously elaborated, showed remarkable culinary technique, offering us a true taste symphony. Our dietary restrictions, mentioned during the Reservation, were carefully taken into account, and the alternative proposals were able to adapt with finesse. The beet variety was an undeniable success, like the rest of the meal. However, the second modified dish disappointed us somewhat: despite its elegant presentation, the combination of salad leaves, mint and some flowers did not fully meet our expectations.
We ended this trip with a cigar accompanied by a homemade cocktail in their garden, a real green setting bathed in a serene and soothing atmosphere.
Thanks to Chef Anne-Sophie PIC and her entire team.

A magical moment, out of time... An experience more than taste, sensory. Everything is perfect for the memory to be exceptional: the dishes of course, flavors, visuals, associations, but also the atmosphere, the service and the pleasure of exchanging with the chef with ease. Accustomed to 3-star hotels, we were delighted to finally discover Pic. Certainly the lunch was good but the satisfaction-price ratio is quite disappointing for this 7-course menu which leaves few memories. No noble constituent explains this "Parisian" price except the labor and the use of exotic spices. On the other hand, but this is normal for this type of establishment, the service is perfect as the map of 2000 wine references.

An exceptional moment. Personalized welcome, professional without being stuffy, delicate, attentive and warm.
A dream dinner, with the succession of refined dishes, surprising for the mind and the taste buds, always delicious, with the discovery of often unexpected, always remarkable wines.
An unrivaled service environment, through professionalism, attention, explanation, a naturalness (no doubt patiently acquired) not devoid of humor. No fault in any area.
A special mention for the sommelier who took charge of the progression of wines served by the glass, with exceptional intelligence and wine culture, well beyond France.
