Everyone loved the duck breast. It wasn't my type of food, so I did not eat everything, but it was good. The five spice cake was a little dry but I liked it. My fish was cooked perfectly. I did not like the risotto, but...More

Chrisbreese, I apologise unreservedly for the service problems that day. About that you are correct and I am very sorry and upset that you had a bad experience. However, I saw that you were seated fairly quickly. The restaurant was not full and there werte many spare tables. We were let down by French-speaking staff who did not arrive for work and put us under pressure. However, you are reviewing food when actually you left without eating anything. The beetroot is not even served with the Courgette Lasagne. So you wouldn't know that the Beetroot and Goats cheese salad, another dish you didn't eat but feel qualified to review, includes beetroot we buy cooked and vacuum packed. It is not frozen. We always try to do something about the small number of people who are unhappy. I was not given that opportunity by you. Others that day were offered complimentary drinks... and did not pay for one course as a means of apology. You are welcome to return and I will do everything to make sure you all have a much better experience. Sincerely, Geoff Milner. Auberge de la Croix du Pape.

Reply to "Hartwigeuler", I would like to offer you a refund on your meal as you had such a poor experience, alleging illness after visiting the restaurant. We have never had such a serious accusation levelled at us before. My only stipulation would be that you give your real name and not hide behind a pseudonym. We encourage customers who are not happy to tell us about it face to face at the time so that we can do something about it. And more importantly I would have apologised and not charged them for it.. as well as offering an alternative. I think I would have remembered someone Not eating their food and complaining about the toughness of the duck. A customer certainly shouldn't continue to force down food that they so strongly detest. Your remarks are libellous, vindictive and malicious and your motives cannot be ascertained because we know nothing about you. However, we stand as an open book. We are proud of our cuisine and friendly atmosphere, from our welcoming complimentary glass of kir and tapenade with olives. No mention of that in your review, quelle surprise! If you have any medical evidence of your malade, please share it with us. I would not have accepted your payment at the time if you had the courtesy to discuss it. I have worked in newspapers for over 30 years and could not get away with writing such a review. It would have ended up on the sub-editor's floor. In the interests of accuracy, The lasagne you refer to meant to be froid ... It is a raw vegan dish served cold... including thinly sliced courgettes, a cheese made from raw cashew nuts, tomato and basil. What is "dur" (hard) in that? But if you didn't like the taste, I accept that you didn't like it... so why eat all of it? It reminds me of a reviewer who said that Chocolate Fondant was not cooked inside.. when in fact it is meant to be a melting centre. What can you do when someone does not know? ... you certainly don't want to be rude and point out their ignorance. We have been the victim of former a former staff member writing false Negative reviews as a vengeful attack, pretending to live in Switzerland. His review sat unchallenged for months until TripAdvisor began to identify reviewers as Facebook friends. I realised this was a vindictive malicious attack when I saw him marked as a Facebook friend... He had forgotten to unfriend me. He had walked out without notice, jeopardising our service, after he had been questioned about falsifying his working hours A former cstaff member also wrote false damaging Positive reviews to boost his own standing and ego, resulted in us being relegated to 23rd in TripAdvisor's local list of restaurants. Other staff informed us of his activities on TripAdvisor. As people told me all those years I worked in publishing... don't believe everything you read. And take any well-meaning reviews by Facebook friends with a pinch of salt. Please note that you can see my name and can see my face. I stand by my remarks. I post my reply publicly and hope my points of view are judged reasonable. Geoff Milner Auberge de la Croix du Pape.

Dear SuperbikeGT, I am a bit ashamed I couldn't say it better myself.... You have given detailed information about how to find us and that is really appreciated. Visitors to the area don't always discover the Grande Corniche unless they have a car or a motorbike or a bicycle ... put on your scarf and let it go wild in the breeze taking in the views from Menton to Antibes and beyond. If it was good enough for Grace Kelly and Cary Grant, it is good enough for us and you. There are some gems to find here... if you don't have a car you can still get around the area on the Ligne d'Azur buses and take in beautiful panoramic views. Find the 82 bus from Vauban up the Moyenne Corniche via Eze to the Plateau de la Justice, eat with us (obviously), then walk or unicycle (yes I have one) to Fort Revere, a Napoleonic Fort used as a POW camp in the second World War for British Aviators. Some of them escaped not once but twice apparently). You can then take the 83 bus towards Monaco from the Plateau and connect with the 100 back to Nice along the Basse Corniche along the coast. Each section could cost you a maximum of 1.50€ a sector. You can use one ticket to connect with other buses if there isn't a break in time. Stephanie made you feel welcome and you enjoyed the food, which I have always been grateful for... the efforts of the staff and their work. Stephanie's friendliness to guests and hard work is particularly appreciated as the face of Croix du Pape in her time here. She has moved on to new challenges but we will still strive to make you feel welcome if you venture this way again. We have reintroduced the Cuisine au Feu de Bois (Wood-fired cooking) with Duck, Filet de Boeuf, Cote de Boeuf, Guinea Fowl and specials to tempt you such as Lobster and whole Dorade and Sea Bass depending on demand and the daily inspiration of the chefs. The restaurant is closed for renovation. Please note the Route de la Grande Corniche is closed between Croix du Pape and La Turbie because of safety work to prevent rock falls. The road will reopen on June 1, 2017.
