We ate some of the best meals of our well-travelled lives in Southern France. This meal might have been our favourite. Funky laid back atmosphere with Michelin rated equivalent food, with reasonable prices and zero pretentiousness.
We thoroughly enjoyed a delicious meal at Le Gambetta.
Delightful service by the wife of the chef. Nice choice of food and wine. Very good value for money. It's a very small restaurant but on a horrible, rainy night out of the main season it...was fully booked and several walk-ins had to be turned away, so be warned.More
Le Gambetta is one of the best restaurants I have visited in many years. The excellent food and its wonderful preparation, the eager but unobtrusive service, the good value wine list and the cosy atmosphere all contribute to a memorable experience. I have no hesitation...in recommending this restaurant to anyone who appreciates great food.More
Except the foie gras which I do not appreciate for the inhumane treatment if animals, the menu is very interesting. The combination of tastes and the presentation of the plates were both very successful. Also it is a small restaurant away from the crowded areas...and the service was perfect.
Better call to book a table as it is full all the time. Get a table inside because outside is practically on the street with traffic.More
Le Gambetta is an intimate restaurant run by two Superheroes - the chef who runs the kitchen and his wife who runs front of house. They are a wonderful team who have created a memorable dining experience.
The food was inventive, flavorful and beautiful. The...fois gras starter was particularly good and a very generous portion - would be enough to share. The pea and mint "cappucino" was a show-stopper for its presentation as well as its flavor. The duck with pistachio crust was divine ....
As for the service... Madame is so good that she appears just when you might need her, stays just long enough to make you feel that she is delighted to have you, and then disappears to allow you to dine in peace.
I can't say enough - but I guess the fact that we went back a 2nd night says it all. We now have a favorite restaurant in Aix-en-Provence!More
While it has a limited menu, we were not disappointment when we went back the following night to sample the other menu options. Really enjoyed the flavours with creative presentations. Also located on the outskirts of the old town it was easily accessible from our...hotel. We found the hostess, very accommodating when we did not have a reservation on a Thursday and Friday night, she was able to squeeze us in. It is popular with the locals, so reservations are advisable for certain nights and hours.More
Decided to have a romantic lunch (our 56th anniversary) and picked Le Gambetta because of the reviews. We both began with a frothy pea soup with mint and a sweet curry cream on top -- a great blend of savoury and sweet: 9€ - Cappuccino...de petits pois à la menthe, espuma de curry breton. It is, hands down, the second best thing we have ever tasted (after chef David Shea's meals!) For my main I had another app: 9€ - Œuf parfait, crème de parmesan & tartare de courgettes au vinaigre de framboise which was a small egg dish with wonderful veggies and great flavor. My husband ordered the 23€ - Entrecôte de veau, crème infusée à l'hibiscus & sirop d'érable which he said was tender and tasty. Since the potato side dish was made with hazelnut and he's allergic, they made another version with pureed broccoli and avocado that was delicious! The restaurant is small so we made a reservation on a Monday for lunch. Lucky we did. The place fills up fast and most people reserve ahead. It is a couple of blocks off the Cours Mirabeau and just a delight!More
