Lovely set meal today. Simple fine tart which was divine and the main, either fish or beef lasagne. All presented and cooked with care . Cocktails are delicious too. Would recommend as not expensive at all .

Nice decor and vibe. However some of the food was slightly ambitious. Several of my guests steaks were very fatty. The asparagus starter was lovey.

Original and creative dishes in the right quantities and great outdoor dining in a quiet alley. Nicely presented dishes and friendly personnel

Perhaps Friday evening is never the best time to try a restaurant. We sat down at 7.50 pm only customers, by 8.00pm almost half full with many reservations. Service was arm and welcoming and we started with a bank I had the chevre bon bon...my wife lamb in it's rice? Both loved it,sadly the rolls were too hot to touch a Bourgogne Aligote at €25 was superb. Sadly the main course fell well short both of us had tepid vegetables and overcooked meat mine sliced steak in sesame my wife had pintarde . Both seemed as if they had been left on the pass and continued to cook . My wife had a simple meringue chocolate pudding I had an expresso which I managed to get the end of my tongue wet from. Go mid week it could be superb but avoid the weekend .More

We picked the local Charente wine which was the house wine but it was not good. After tasting we were told it would be added to our bill even though it was not acceptable so at 21 euros a bottle we were not impressed. The...service was a bit disorganised and they seemed to be understaffed. However the food was acceptable but we would not recommendMore

Delicious two course lunch the most sophisticated for this holiday, (Staying in a very rural area where most of the dining is quite simple this is our one trip to a large town). Fresh melon and ham salad followed by pork cooked in mustard served...with a maize pudding, most unusual but delicious.More

Cognac is a very quiet place on Mondays, with quite a few restaurants closed on that day. We found this restaurant by chance and what a lovely experience. There is a good selection of menus, le plat du jour was Pork Colombo and it was...delicious. Service was good and friendly.More

No fresh food only prefabricated, so disappointing especially as I heard so many local patrons talking so highly about this place.

We ate twice at Chez Aristide. We arrived later than expected into a rainy Cognac and our B&B recommended Aristide. It was bustling despite the weather and we had a lovely meal of seabass and a couple of classic French desserts (Apricot tart and Strawberry...eclair). We enjoyed it so much we went back a couple of days later to try the steak (and that apricot tart with lavender ice cream again). Again delicious and nicely busy for a Thurs night. We speak almost no french and the staff were so helpful and patient with us. On our second visit the manager/owner came over to say hello as he’d remembered us. A great place to dine in Cognac!More

The restaurant itself has a lovely atmoshere and is nicely decorated and furnished. We had bob bon de chevre and a salmon and avacado starter both very pleasing followed by cod and chorizo risotto and entrecote for mains. The risotto was fine but the entrecote...must have been the worst steak Ive ever had in France so disappointing.More

This was my second visit to chez Aristide and, given the pleasure of my first visit, I was looking forward to it. Several of my companions chose the menu du jour which was modestly priced at around 17 euros. Two of us chose as an...entrée a plateau of foie gras. This, as was the case on my first visit, excellent. Two others had a green pea gazpacho, pleasant but not much like gazpacho. The main dishes were from the menu du jour and were cod plus a sort of cauliflower cheese. I'm afraid these dishes were rather bland, quite salty and without much interest. Deserts were OK including a rather good dish of profiteroles. In summary, slightly disappointing especially given my first visit, my suggestion would be not to choose the menu du jour unless you really like the contents. Choosing from the carte is much more satisfactory perhaps because it's not mass catering. Fellow diners were a lunchtime crowd of local French folk including a party that could have been either lawyers or used car salespersons, you get the picture.More

Found this place by accident! Mid October, mid week, the service and food was excellent. Particularly fine was an entree of foie gras, very well presented with the addition of caramelised onion. The 'plat du jour' was rabbit, again excellently prepared and full of subtle...flavour. One other point, the restaurant was full of French folk taking their lunch (plus the obligatory yank with a clear and penetrating voice, but hey, nothing's perfect). You will see from my choice of food that veggies and fellow travellers will get little comfort from me. Very much recommended! By the way, if you drink a little too much to drive then the Musee de Cognac is just down the road where one can doze in an informed way for a little while.More

Oh dear, water not even a slight chill, my risotto had no warmth whatsoever, the fish on top was warm and just right, the vegetables underneath the fish just about tepid lost most their heat to pale pink risotto. Long waits throughout, bread only appears...with the main. If they could not be bothered as we had not ordered a starter, also got the impression if you are French service was better and the food had some care put in!More

Ideal for a lunch time snack.Menu was varied and of a high standard Three of us had salads which were of high quality and very filling. One of us had the 'plat du jour' which was a well cooked steak with sautéed potatoes and salad....Service was very efficient and very courteous. It was good value and was served with little waiting .More
