My wife and I ate here after our tour of the Hennessy Cognac Distillery. This is THE BEST RESTAURANT IN COGNAC! We had the Prix Fix Lunch for 29 Euros! Best Value for the money! If you are in Cognac, make sure this is one...of your stops!!!More

A lovely atmospheric bistro in the heart of old Cognac Fantastic staff and we were delighted to meet the ebullient character Claude himself The food was stunning - ceviche of cabillaud and a dish of smoked trout with poached egg followed by beautifully cooked maigre...and merlu, fish is a specialty here Prices for the food and good selection of local wines were very fair Highly recommendedMore

Everything was perfect. Starting with oysters, then the main course with an extremely tender fillet, and ending up with dessert. Staff was efficient and friendly.

The restaurant is nicely situated in a quiet street in the centre of Cognac and inside you find a nice appointed and decorated interior. Good choice of food from Menu du Jour or A la Carte and very professional and friendly staff. My carpaccio starter...was superb and the fish of the day very tasty. Good wine, nice atmosphere and all in all a very nice experience.More

One of the better restaurants in town with the highlight being the Entrecôte and Veal steaks, which were both cooked perfectly. The langostinos were also good by the avocado and Lobster salad was a bit bland. Profiteroles were also good but the chocolate cake wasn't...memorable. Overall we enjoyed it and would recommendMore

We sat on the outside Terrance for dinner. The quality of the food is excellent with a wide ranging menu and special options. The staff are friendly, hospitable but professional and helped make the evening special. The desserts are worth the visit alone!!

We were recommended the restaurant by the owners of our accommodation and it did not disappoint, slightly expensive but delicious food, great menu and an extremely helpful waiter. Service and drinks were great it was a busy Monday evening with a lovely atmosphere.

We were warmly welcomed at the door by Monsieur Claude and invited in despite not having a reservation. The staff are friendly, helpful. and speak perfect english if necessary. The restaurant is comfortable and the service was excellent despite it being busy. The entrée and...the plat were very very good but the desert du jour was even better. We had the Charentais white wine from Lepontis which was also good and great value. Several local people recommended Bistro de Claude to us and we are very glad they did. We enjoyed our lunch so much that we have made a reservation tomorrow for dinner.More

Traditional bistro restaurant. Seating is excellent, decor is great, food is a of very good standard and the service is fantastic. The all round pluses of this restaurant give the diner a dining experience that you would expect in high dining establishments. Staff are friendly...and attentive and work hard to ensure you enjoy your time at bistro Claude. It was good to see the number of repeat clients attending the restaurant and the staff were genuinely pleased to welcome them back.More

There is just something about Claude’s that makes it irresistible to my friends and me. The food is good honest cooking with a Charentais flair, the waiters are charming and helpful, décor is very quirky (and all the better for that) and Claude is a...real character. It is always a special treat for me and my wife and our friends to go back for a lunchtime meal. The set meal is sensibly priced. The wine list excellent if a little on the expensive side. If you have never been before you really should try Claude’s (not open at weekends).More

Good portions of food, however we wanted to have the menu but they ran out of the prawns for starters and replaced with tuna which was already on the main course. They did not offer any alternative for the menu which was disappointing and so...one of us had to take a la carte. The menu needs more options. Flavour wise, they had the right ingredients. Tuna for main course was perfectly cooked, so as the ratatouille was nicely done. There were two front of house. One of them was very chatty and did not have an appropriate behaviour for such a restaurant. The other one lacked of experience. Also, we have seen most of the kitchen team and front of house staff smoking just outside the restaurant, next to the main entrance. This needs to be rectified.More

Kath This is a pretty traditional French bistro so I think you might struggle a little to find something plain for them to eat from the menu but I think you would able to ask for a plain steak (or chicken maybe) and frites... More
