A Wednesday lunchtime, our first meal on our holiday, stopping halfway between home and the south. The restaurant was fully booked and deservedly so. Social distancing fully observed, all rules followed, one felt very safe in this place. And the food was excellent. We had...the 16.90 lunch, excellent value, just a few euros more expensive than the 'usual' French midday meal, but way better in quality. Now I just need an excuse to keep coming back.More

What a great restaurant on the river! Service was spot on, food and drinks all excellent. Will definitely be coming back to this little gem!

There are surprisingly few quality restaurants in Montauban and the Ventadour stands out as being excellent value. The decor, also, is conducive - the vaulted brickwork and changing display of artwork providing additional interest. Parking in the vicinity is easy and it is located on...the south bank of the river only a short distance from the city centre. The food is most important, of course. The chef is very skillful, especially with sauces and garnishes and all dishes are beautifully presented. Service was smiling and perfectly paced despite some 30 clients at the peak. There are two menus - the daily at 14 euros, which changes weekly, and the grander 29 euro offering which we all ordered. There was a choice of starters, but we all went for foie gras mi-cuit: it was delicious and extraordinarily generous in quantity. This was followed by a perfectly cooked filet mignon (a point - pink in the centre). A choice of desserts included an very good tarte tatin or cheese. We shared a bottle of red Sancerre at 29 euros, but the wine list included a good selection of SW reds and whites at 15 euros and up. We all enjoyed the experience of eating here and it is worth the effort of diverting if one is somewhere near.More

After a long period of being disappointed by the 'rapport prix/qualité' of restaurants in France, I was delighted to find one which restored my faith. Apart from its location and architecture, it was the standard of cooking which was impressive. After a delightful first visit...(22€ lunch menu for 3 courses, as well as amuse-bouches and little petits-fours with coffee), we decided to return to see whether Le Ventadour could maintain the standard in the evening. There are only two dinner menus- 30€ and 40€ - both offering a choice of imaginative and more traditional dishes. In particular, the 'ardoise autour de poissons', small portions of various fish and seafood - all absolutely perfectly cooked - served on piece of slate, was excellent and copious enough for a main course. Couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly, and the service was fantastic.More

Had lunch here with two friends. Delicious menu for 22 euros. Spoilt for choice from the three or four starters and mains all beautifully cooked and presented (went for assiette of spring vegetables then stuffed duck breast in the end, finished with perfect fondant chocolat)....Great location just over the bridge and easy parking right outside. Interesting vaulted ceiling and lovingly restored interior. Lovely friendly service and interesting wine list with local and classic French wines. Would strongly recommend.More
