We booked in advance & were quickly shown to our seats. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The courses were well spaced & the food excellent. We went for beef & fish with the staff explaining the dishes in great detail in French & English. The crepes cuzette was prepared at our table. The meal and experience wasn't cheap but... More

I went in expecting something exquisite, given the restaurant's appearance (art noveau) and reputation. It is a perfectly serviceable restaurant but nothing out of the ordinary by French standard. Service could have been a bit more prompt. The food was ok (I had salmon) but not extraordinary. It probably was a fantastic restaurant in its heyday, at least from its... More

An indulgent visit to one of the iconic buildings and institutions in Nancy. The sinuous woodwork, ceilings, coulombs and fantastic metallic light fittings add to the atmosphere of this reminder of a bygone era. Fantastic ice concoctions, can't comment on the less indulgent food, really just went for the building and the experience, continental "Grande Café" unfortunately without the gateaux... More

I entered the Cafe' Brasserie L'Excelsior only for coffee on a cold blustery late winter afternoon. The coffee was good, but the Art Nouveau atmosphere was amazing. Nancy was once at the forefront of Art Nouveau, and this Brasserie is a dazzling relic of that movement.

We selected this place via TripAdvisor, we walked two times through the rain (watch out, there are 2 Poincare streets in Nancy), but it was definitely worthwile. The staff is dressed traditionally in black and white. The restaurant has a classic Parisian Brasserie feeling, the dinner is very good en the staff is efficient and friendly. The wines are perfect.... More

We'be been coming here for seven years and have watched its gradual decline but this year we were severely disappointed. They'be crammed in more tables so you have to eat elbow to elbow and consequently the ambience and service have suffered. On this occassion all the food was disappointing and the steaks inedible. Not what you expect given the prices.... More

I have been coming here for years but never seen the service at l'excelsior as bad as last Monday night. The place was not particularly busy and many tables were empty which is unusual. The drinks and food took ages to arrive and despite the pleasant nature of the staff they seemed uncertain as to what to do. Empty tables... More
