We came in to the restaurant as it looked quite atmospheric from the menu board outside on the rue de l'ancien courrier. It was December, around 9.00 and it was empty. The waitress said they were still open so we came in and sat down, put our coats on the next seat and waited for a drink and a menu.... More

I had a Saturday lunch here. There is a very interesting courtyard here which I ate in. Inside there were lots of tables in separate rooms. Great ambience and service. One bonus was that they sold wine 'a ficelle' i.e. they brought and opened the bottle and you paid for what you drank out of it. A very nice option... More

The staff at our hotel recommended Le Bistrot de l'Ancien-Courrier for our larger group. Very nice recommendation. Right in the middle of Montpellier, nice room for a group, good food, good service, good value. We had our own room which felt like part of a castle. Nice menu. I had a nicely prepared portion of beef.

Well hidden from the tourist crowds on the main plazas (but still just minutes from the center of town) this classic French restaurant in an old bathhouse, arcaded ceilings with big chandelier, has a lovely menu, very reasonable prices, and is a memorable evening out. We received good help from the waitress and ended up with a wonderful 3 course... More

This was the best meal we had in Montpellier and certainly not the most expensive. I had veal kidneys in mustard sauce which were just perfect. (Despite the waitress warning me 'you do know these are ... Kidneys?' ) My husband's fish was beautifully cooked and the starters were also excellent. My only criticism would be how airless the courtyard... More

Everything about this restaurant was absolutely first class. The building itself is amazing and the food is even better! The staff were very friendly and very understanding while we tried to speak the little French that we are capable of. It's situated on the oldest street in the city and if you're in Montpellier then you've got to make visiting... More

Liked it so much I went twice. No fancy dining but good value wholesome French cuisine. Baked Camembert was superb as was the baked Lamb. Could not manage a third course. Very reasonable demi carafe of house red. Nice friendly service and a good number of French diners

Found this little gem just wandering the streets during the day and decided to go back for dinner. The beautiful traditional old stone vaults made for a unique experience. The wait staff were very helpful with the English translation. The quality of food for the reasonable price couldn't be sniffed out. Froi gras, French onion soup, fish, steak and desert... More

Recommended by the hotel it took a while to find in the old town. But what a find . A 'real' family run restaurant that had good varied menu using fresh ingredients. Excellent service and atmosphere. The local wine was spot on. Would go again - if I can find it :-)

The food and service were wonderful. We were in Montpellier for 10 days. We ate here in the second night. On the last night in Montpellier we decided to return to our favorite for the visit and we chose here. Our French is very poor but they did have a menu in English.
