We've been twice; once with a party of French folks and once as etrangeres. Both times the services was quite nice and the food was very good. Only complaint is they could have eased off on the salt a bit in some dishes.

We enjoyed the evening very much with good food and an excellent bottle of Bordeaux wine. The staff is wonderful and the ancient atmosphere with a fire and old beans is nice and cosy.

We are planning a trip back to Paris specifically to eat at the Coupe Chou again! Stunning, ancient building with a lovely warm and intimate atmosphere - the fires were lit when we visited and it was hard to leave! Food is classic but cooked exceptionally well - Confit of duck and Fois Gras may not sound particularly exciting but... More

Everything about this place is charming! The staff were lovely and took excellent care of us. We went for lunch and ordered from the pre-set menu. I had the pate, beef, and the floating island dessert. All incredibly tasty. The ambience is perfection. Staff also readily spoke English. I will definitely return here on my next visit to Paris.

This lovely restaurant is tucked away in one of the little alleys off the beaten track in the area of the Pantheon and the Sorbonne. It's not easy to find without a map, but is not far from some of the better bars in the area and the College de France metro station. The restaurant is within a lovely old... More

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here. I had the salmon with ratatouille and mashed potatoes, my husband had the beef with potatoes and vegetables. We had very good wine and a delicious dessert of chocolate mousse and creme brulee. The waitstaff here were very nice and spoke very good English and were happy to make suggestions. The... More

I was recommended this restaurant by a Parisian living in London. Bottom line - excellent service, good food, cosy atmosphere. My only slight gripe would be the close proximity of other tables - amorous couple next to us (we thought he was about to propose) - difficult not to hear their conversation!

My husband and I had visited the restaurant in 2009 and had a wonderful experience so we were thrilled when our friends who live in Europe wanted to have dinner there while both in Paris for the weekend. My friend called ahead to check that we could bring three young children (two babies and one toddler) and four adults and... More

Actually third visit to Le Coup Chou on this occasion with my brother. It's not the easiest of places to find and top tip is head for the Pantheon and use a map to navigate from there as unlikely you'd just stumble across it otherwise. Making a reservation beforehand also worth doing as it's not the biggest of places etc... More

PRO'S: Traditional French bistro with charm and character in building. Our group had excellent duck confit and beef bourginoun. Medium priced in Paris, 40€ with wine. Limited winelist, good advise from waitstaff. Open on Sunday is a plus. CON'S: No parking nearby, walk or taxi. Stairs to bathrooms are steep. SUMMARY: Excellent restaurant. Will return next trip if we stay... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
