We went to Closerie des Lilas for my birthday meal. I hadn’t actually heard of the restaurant before but we had walked past it the night before and it looked lovely and attractive with its plants and terrace area. we read the menu and there was a vegetarian option and so decided to go there for my birthday.
We ate at the brasserie, the more casual part of the restaurant. The staff were polite and friendly and everything started well.
We ordered two glasses of champagne (17 euro each) and were served a small bowl of crisps as an accompaniment.
There wasn’t a vegetarian starter other than boiled eggs and so we went straight for mains.
My husband ordered the steak and chips, and I ordered the vegetarian pasta. I also ordered a lychee martini.
The pasta arrived and looked nice, however on closer inspection there was a hair on the cheese. My husband called a waiter who didn’t seem to understand the problem of having a hair in my dinner and asked to take the piece of cheese out. We said we wanted a replacement dinner. It was a bit awkward and not handled very smoothly, and in the meantime my husband’s dinner was going cold. He enjoyed his steak, but the chips were disappointing.
We had to ask twice for bread.
When my food returned it was scalding hot and pretty boring for a tomato pasta, but nevermind.
We didn’t order dessert as by now we were both sweating due to the heater located above us. We ordered one more drink, I asked for a cosmopolitan and was served a second lychee martini. The cosmopolitan (17 euros) was very good but the lychee martini had been flavourless which is why I didn’t want a second!
Overall it was a nice enough experience but very mixed, I wouldn’t return for dinner but may return for a drink as the setting and location was lovely.
Ps if you look closely at my pasta you will see the hair! I hadn’t yet noticed it when I took the photo.

I would have given 5 stars to this brasserie - it really fulfills your expectations when you dine in Paris. The decor, the ambiance, the music (live piano) and of course the food. They have a great and beautiful bar with a nice dining area in the garden (totally protected in the winter). However, we found their prices to be quite expensive, so beware of that. If that is OK with you, then it is definitely worth visiting the place where Hemingway and his lot used to frequent (see their names attached to their favorite tables).

This restaurant had been recommended, so I booked a table for a friend visiting from London, who appreciates fine food. The restaurant has character and history, with a Hemingway connection. The staff were welcoming and a piano was being played which added to the atmosphere. We were well looked after by M Collin and had a very nice meal which didn’t disappoint in any way. We ordered the lamb and the Hemingway steak, which is flambé and finished in the room. We were there for three hours, but enjoyed the evening. It seemed like a place on the tourist trail with a number of renditions of “happy birthday” from the pianist/singer, but this did not detract from the quality of the food, which I have to say, was slightly more expensive than expected. On the right occasion I shall go again.

I had dinner here last week and it was terrific in all respects. I was with my son and we were celebrating his 30th birthday. The food, wine and service were all excellent. I told the server that it was my son's birthday and his dessert was accompanied by a candle and Happy Birthday music from the excellent pianist. A great evening all around!

We went to this restaurant because it was recommended and because it was historical. We were told to eat in the brasserie which we did and it was delightful. However that’s where the story ends. The service was lacking. We had to order our appetizer twice because the waiter forgot and we had to tell the roving manager to please bring our wine because, again, the waiter wasn’t responding. I ordered the poached haddock which was in a very loose sauce without much flavor. the french fries were ordinary as was the bread. I looked at the menu for the restaurant and was surprised to see that it was much less robust than that of the brasserie.

From the piano player to the classic cocktails, the restaurant has an amazing old world charm. The restaurant seems to be frequented by regular locals who are knowingly greeted by the staff. The professional staff provides five star service throughout the experience.
The béarnaise sauce was excellent with my filet. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of fresh oysters and seafood options.

The patio is quite nice on a sunny afternoon, a beautiful setting. Unfortunately, I forgot I was wearing the "I'm an American, so go ahead and screw me over, despite what our parents did for you eighty years ago" sign. We were charged for two seafood plates (@ 50 Euros each), despite my wife, who speaks French, clearly ordering one plate to share. Probably our tenth trip to Paris, so not exactly our first rodeo, but the "dumb waiter act" certainly worked on us. Be very, very careful.

Waiter was extremely mean, during the whole time we didn’t feel welcomed there. And finally, we’ve ordered main dish (Roasted game partrigde cep mushroom fricassee salmis sauce) and barely touched it, because the dish had disgusting taste and it even looked bad. When the waiter has asked if we are okay, we said what we thought about this dish and his only answer was that - everybody else likes it. After that he took away our full plates without offering any replacement. And didn’t removed them from our bill too. This place named itself as Gourmet Restaurant. But reality is so different. The food and service in a random bistro in Paris are 100 times better than here!
I didn’t ask the name of the waiter, but our reservation was for 6 people (02.12 at 8.15, Ksenia)

The food was very good. The seafood (oysters, prawns and fish) was fresh and prepared well. Service was impeccable. Our server spoke English, as did most of the members of the staff and was very kind and helpful. He helped us decide on the best oysters to order based on liking oysters with more brine. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had outdoor seating in a garden like setting, as well as, open air indoor dining. Our server told us the claim to have the best profiteroles in Paris and based on our sampling, we agree! Price was a bit more than most places, but the food and service was in-line with the price.

Beautiful space, terrible service. They didn’t want Americans there. The waiter did not clear the table, ask us if we wanted drinks or coffee. The lemon dessert was inedible and when we said we didn’t prefer it as he cleared the plates, he did not offer a replacement. The guests next to us were on FaceTime the entire time and then we were charged for food we did not get. The manager threw the refund at me in euros and would not refund my card.
Much better meal at Le Petit Letutia.

Very pretty Parisian brasserie with a nice atmosphere like there are several in Paris. Plain seafood platter and disappointing decoration of the dish. The sea urchins were not good and filled with black mud for €9 per sea urchin. The mayonnaise was tasteless and tasteless, even homemade, but above all the service leaves something to be desired with a very unfriendly butler who should not be serving the service if he appreciates the customers so little. It gives a bad image of the establishment. There are so many beautiful brands in Paris, I won't go back.

There were 8 of us and we were all very disappointed with the meal and the service.
The head waiter made the wrong dish or drink 4 times. These errors have been corrected but what a lack of professionalism!
Food or drinks were not served at the same time.
At the start of the meal, a guest asked for bread because it had not been served. The head waiter replies that she has already had some, and that he has also brought toast for the foie gras. By insisting, he still decides to bring a piece of bread, but when putting it down he says "I'm bringing some bread to Madame who has already had some."
I ordered a white truffle scramble. It was actually truffle without any taste, and the brouillade was dry and stuck to the bottom of the plate. (How long did it stay on a warmer?
2 people ordered scallops. Served completely cold, and without accompaniment!!!!
This meal was totally ruined by this "maitre d'hôtel". Given the price, and the reputation of this establishment, we were entitled to have a pleasant time and enjoy at least decent cuisine. That was not the case, I will not go there again, and I do not recommend going there. There are many other brasseries or restaurants in Paris…..

Perfect service, dishes a little disappointing. I had a partridge with porcini mushrooms (€49), one leg was served almost raw, this poultry was a little dry, the sauce almost absent. Very disappointed

Our dinner at La Closerie des Lias was not only so tasty but so much fun because everyone in the entire restaurant was so friendly, warm and welcoming. We arrived early and had a cocktail in the bar. Sam makes sure everyone in the bar is well taken care of with a smile. We can't wait to see him again. The piano player is great and asked us for a request, we found out he's been playing in Paris for over 25 years and really enjoyed listening to his wide range of tunes. Our server and his assistant Lam took amazing care of us during dinner. We got the seafood platter and it was just wonderful. The snails were a favorite as we don't get those on seafood platters at home. So tasty. We drank a white Bordeaux and forgot to take a picture of the bottle as it was most definitely one of our favorites. We had a fabulous time and a tasty dinner. Thank you so much!

Scandalous! We waited more than 1h30, without explanation, without apology, without appetizers... some tables were served, others not. We must have gotten angry, other customers left their tables. What was finally served was of no interest or even not good (Gnocco Napoletano pasta / grilled vegetables -> worthy of a school canteen).
Of this historic brewery, only the name remains…. and the prices!!!
