We felt immediately welcomed by the owner and the waiter. The food is carefully and tastefully prepared. This is a great dinner choice and is away from the busier parts of the city.

We found this restaurant in a blog I get online. It happened to be a few blocks from our hotel. Before any food was selected, the owner engaged us in English and impressed me because he knew a Toronto chef I happen to like, Jamie Kennedy. Had it not been for a new addition to his family he might have... More

Our waiter was lovely and helpful, happily helped us English folk that don't speak a word of French. Very accommodating of a vegetarian too. Food was well presented but minuscule portions - my colleagues were all hungry when we left. Wine was lovely - especially the Chablis - decor is cozy and traditional Bit overpriced in my view

Had dinner on a Friday evening, nice waiter but manager showed a complete lack of interest even for a French proprietor. Food extremely expensive for very average fare and wine list extensive but very overpriced. Will not return as much better restaurants close by.

The food was indeed interesting during this lunch but while being there it would have been good to meet a waiter attentionate enough to show me a wine list... instead of imposing a glass of cow's urine from Pays du Gard... was it Chardonnay, as stated, or Semillon or Viognier no one would tell. I tried to warm it up... More

We left Jean with a feeling of ambivalence. Their ambitions are high, the food partly excellent, but our opinion was that they didn’t quite reach the Michelin star levels that they are obviously aiming for. The problem with Michelin style fine dining is that if you fail even by an inch you risk being left with nothing. Jean didn’t leave... More

I was in bad mood when we went to Jean. Had a fight on a complex issue. Whose who married know what I meant. But the dinner took me in a better mood. It is not big but cozy. The owner Jean helped me with menu in French and very good recommendation of wine. He shared his experience and the... More

Saw that jean was selected in the guide Michelin and arrived there, it was empty and the only server asked me if I had a reservation... Acted like it was full, then they selected bad wine and food over priced and ver my simple, champagne selection was wrong and very expensive.. I understand why that restaurant was empty.. I do... I can sum the evening up in one word - superb! We wanted to end our honeymoon with a night to remember and it could not have been better. We found this restaurant on trip advisor and it was close to the hotel we were staying in. Booked a table online the day before and promptly received a confirmation email.... More

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
