This is not a restaurant where a young chef produces his latest creation. It is one where the chef knows what he does well, and does it. I have the impression that the menu had changed little since we ate here eight years ago - but why should it when the food is so good? Best dish this time were the Noix de Saint Jacques - excellent fresh scallops cooked just right. Service professional, space a little tight.

Having dinner with a vegetarian adult daughter in Paris on Christmas Day was no easy feat - Bistrot de l'Oulette was one of the very few of hundreds of restaurants I checked online that had a vegetarian main course ('plat'). Most restaurants offer something veggie as a starter, and that's it. The 'social movement' pension protests and transport strikes were in full swing at this time, but luckily we were able to get to Bastille metro station and walk from there (the closest metro is Bréguet-Sabin normally). It's a small and cosy place, and they have no problem conversing in English, which was just as well, as I was the only one who had some (bad) French. There was in fact a special Christmas menu, which didn't have a veggie option for mains - but upon asking, they had no problem cooking up a tasty veggie plate for our daughter. I completely forgot to take a photo of the Xmas menu, so I can't remember what we all ate. However, I do recall duck as my main, which was outstanding. We also managed to squeeze in some delicious desserts; I was unable to resist the crème brulée, which was huge, much larger than the tiny pots one usually gets. Service was brisk, efficient and friendly. As other TA reviews say, it's a terrific little place in the Marais, and very affordable. Worth a visit any time, and it was perfect for us at Christmas.

Good mainline bistro menu, with some modern flourishes; seems to have a southwestern France tilt. Nice mi-cuit salmon coated in sesame seeds and a shrimp and avocado starter were good. The main courses (confit duck and the cassoulet) were flawless. Energetic couple of guys (owners?) kept the front of the house humming. Good wine list. Bright small space. Quibbles: The cheap stemware detracts from the nice wine program. We chose a table to be seated across from one another, but midway through the first course, we were asked for some unfathomable reason to move side-by-side on the banquette, not an orientation we like. The decor is a bit painful; small cheap wall sconces and little artwork or other decoration to provide some visual relief More problematic was the dessert. We saw a number of orders of pear croustade being served, and liked what we saw and both ordered it. One order was heavenly, brown crisp pâte feuilletée around nicely cooked pears, served with an excellent armagnac sorbet. Sadly, the other order was pale and virtually raw; it should never have left the kitchen. The meal had be a pleasure up to that point, and we had little interest in waiting for a replacement, so we let it slide, but still thought it inexcusable to have served an obviously undercooked dish. The two starters, two mains, two glasses of champagne, nice little Bordeaux, and two waters were €148, a fair deal. We would probably go back despite the failed dessert experience.

Based on the reviews we read here we honestly were expecting a little bit more...of almost everything. 3 of us came by for dinner. The service seemed a bit spotty. It was a looooong time before we even got menus or asked if we would like a drink or something to start. Then it was a loooooooong(er) time before our appetizers came out. We felt like being English speaking might have been setting us back here as the native speakers seemed to be getting more attention. Nonetheless, the food was good but nothing special. 2 of us had duck which was a bit on the dry side, the 3rd had steak which was good. We had a couple appetizers which were good, but again nothing super notable. None of it was bad, it just wasn't anything we'd be compelled to go back for.

This warm, welcoming restaurant was ten minutes walk from our hotel in the Marais and well worth visiting. The two servers were both busy, efficient and friendly, looking after a full restaurant of diners on a Monday evening in March. That alone impressed us. The menu was well priced and we enjoyed both the Salmon Tataki, which was not typically French, and the Confit de Canard, which was. A good example of a French restaurant moving with the times while keeping the best of traditional French cuisine. The puddings were great too! This was clearly a neighbourhood restaurant, which relied on locals coming back rather than a stream of tourists who might never return. These tourists, however, will be returning. It was a lovely meal.

We found the restaurant on Trip Advisor as we were looking for a classic local French Bistro in a medium price range and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is small and very popular so we booked beforehand and were glad we did as it was full for lunch. The staff were efficient and professional both in the kitchen and with the waiter on duty. The menu was classic from the southern regions of France and the choices we made were beautifully cooked and presented. We thoroughly recommend this little bistro as it is a genuine French experience.

We visited for dinner recently. The waiter was pleasant but the food was very average. we ordered the foie gras as a starter, which had a 4 euro supplement on the menu. It was not good at all and would not recommend. The confit was ok but served with mashed potatoes and would have been much better with grilled potatoes which is more traditional. The deserts were ok.

Ate here with my husband and niece for dinner. Small restaurant with attentive and professional staff. Everything we ordered was delicious, from duck salad starter to fish and meat main courses, to delicious desserts. The wines were the best we had during our recent trip to Paris.

We had dinner here on our last night in Paris; and it surpassed our expectations. Thanks to the reception staff at the Hotel Original for recommending it! We three friends enjoyed wine, appetizers, main courses and decadent desserts. Every single dish was delicious, perfect!, and memorable. My layered veggie appetizer was by far one of the best I've had in my 55 years. Our braised beef ragout simply melted in your mouth and the wine selection was wonderful. We took our time, chatted about our 4 days in Paris; and were so very happy to spend our last night at this charming and exquisite bistro.

This charming bistro, close to the Place des Vosges, offers a warm welcome, excellent service and outstanding food & drinks. It is permanently on our 'must visit' list when we are in Paris. Lovely Sam & gracious Emmanuel run the front of house with professionalism & patience. The food is traditional French with a modern touch. There is always a delicious & interesting mix of fish, meat, vegetarian options. The aubergine/tomato mille feuille is a perfect entré; my husband is still raving about both the lamb and the duck he had as main courses on our 2 visits this fall. There is always a Saint Joseph red on the wine list: heaven. The decor is cozy & inviting, filled with interesting old photos. The chef greets us with warmth and enthusiasm; he and his team create a dining experience to remember. We're already looking forward to our next visit! When you go, please say hello to Sam, Emmanuel & Chef from Ed & Maggie from Wisconsin. Bon appétit!

Bistrot's chef and team prepare the most delicious, creative food in a quiet and cozy ambiance. I truly look forward to dinner here whenever I visit Paris. The chef and staff form an unpretentious ensemble of lovely service, excellent food and carefully selected wines. Bisrot de L'Oulette is among my very favorite restaurants anywhere. Bistro owner/staff are kind and accommodating regardless if a couple, group, or single business traveler, as I have often been. Look forward to next dinner!

This review is years overdue. We eat here each time we go to Paris, (maybe every other year), and have never been disappointed. They were kind to our small children when we first ate there, and we have always had great food. The addition of the terrace this year is wonderful, especially since there is not too much traffic in their street. The food is always fresh, they buy their bread at an excellent bakery. My husband loves their cassoulet because it's very meaty. I like that they have excellent vegetarian dishes.

My wife and I, as foodies, have been routinely coming to Paris for over 30 years and have dined at the predecessor to and Bistrot d l'Oulette (same owner) since the latter's inception. We had the pleasure of visiting them again in December 2021 and January 2022. This quiet Marais venue provides a breath of calm in the turbulence of daily Paris life (especially at lunch time). The food was excellent, service impeccable and prices quite reasonable. Our Dec. meal included the saumon mi cuit and salade verte for entres followed by hearty plats of confit de canard and cassoulet maison - perfect for a cold winter day. The Jan. visit was a show stopper with fois gras soup including mushrooms. We could easily consume this daily. The other delights were their scallops in a safran sauce with mushroom risotto and an amazing cuisse de pintard with hen braised in a thick red wine and mushroom sauce with potatoes. The guinea fowl was tender, juicy and remarkable. I continue to dream of this meal. Add savory deserts and excellent, easily affordable wines to the mix for a perfect feast. Reservations are a must at night and advised at lunch. This Marais gem is truly worthy of a visit. Bon appetit!

The Bistrot de l’Oulette is a lovely, intimate, classic bistro, perfect in every way. The serve was warm and accommodating without being overbearing, the atmosphere friendly and stylish. And the food — superb, with the menu offering a good mix of classics. My roast duck was outstanding. I came away more satisfied than I had been at a Michelin two restaurant!

Stuck for somewhere to eat and this restaurant accommodated us and our 2 kids (7&9), What luck! Every mouthful was outstanding. The foie to start was generous and perfectly smooth. The duck was a joy. Kids menus were well beyond chicken nuggets with excellent duck or fish options. The place is quite posh but not formal. There were a surprising amount of kids there when we were there so it seems to be a local popular family spot. I couldn’t fault it and it may be my meal of the year!

Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
