Went for lunch and they seem to do mostly egg-based dishes or tartines on pain poilane. The terrace looks nice and the inside was light & airy. We went for the tartare with coleslaw. First time I see a tartare with bits of carrots?!? Also it was quite bland and they had no worcester sauce to offer to us, just... More

We stopped by for coffee and people watching, and were greatly rewarded. Saint Germain is particularly interesting in this area with just a scattering of tourists. The coffee was great, service was pleasant and attentive, and we enjoyed the break.

I enjoyed a lovely glass of wine and some light snacks here while cooling my heels in between stores in Saint Germain - I loved the wine list, which had a nice amount of variety and the waiters provided a very healthy pour (always a treat!) This is a lovely spot to settle in for a respite and enjoy some... More

Au Sauvignon was recommended by a friend. We went there specifically because they serve Sancerre wine from Domaine du Pre Semele, the family vineyard of my friend. We ordered a platter of "sandwiches" - bread sliced from the large loaves baked at Poilane, and filled with a variety of thin-sliced sausage and cheeses, to go along with our Sancerre and... More

I believe it was 1969 when I first visited Au Sauvignon and have been stopping by every few years since as it is just around the corner from our apartment on the Rue du Cherche-Midi. It seems to be very much the same as it was on my first visit, exactly how I had pictured Paris. The menu includes an... More

I really like this terrace for a light lunch and une verre when shopping at Bon Marche (about a block away). Great service, good selection of wine and the tartines to eat -which are essentially a varying option of fresh ingredients on fabulous French toasted country bread. A bit pricier but very good. Also not as touristy which for me... More

Looked for this bar on a recommendation and very glad I had. Spent a very rainy afternoon in here with my girlfriend sampling the great wines they have to offer. The service was great and had some very funny banter with the staff even though neither of our French is great. When we left they even gave us an umbrella... More

Tight quarters in this traditional bistro. Service was quick and accommodating. Perfect pit stop while shopping!!! While it was very crowded inside, we really enjoyed the experience. My tartin was quite good!

We stopped here on our way home from a long day for a drink and dessert. It was just great. Lots of people going by, a delicious chocolate and pear tart and kir.

Come here if you enjoy the attentions of a bored Putin-lookalike bully whose goal is to make your meal as miserable as possible. I came here and was welcomed by a friendly female waitress at first, and I was excited to have my lunch. When the male server came by to take my order (goat cheese salad, turned out pretty... More

Dear Madam, I am very sorry to read about your bad experience in my place. The thing is we do our best to have friendly waiters, and really the team we have now has been here for a long time. I perfectly see who is the waiter you are talking about, and I am surprised because this guy has been... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighbourhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighbourhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighbourhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
