The service was great and my croque monsieur was nice, but drinks here are incredibly pricey which is hardly surprising given the location.

After a fearsome and tiring walk up the stairs from the lower level of Montmartre Mount to the Place du Tertre with another two couples, the French 'bistro' restaurant Chez La Mere Catherine was our reward. They deliver what they promise. Beautiful classic bistro surrounding and atmosphere, cozy place, French traditional cooking at its best, polite, attentive and amusing staff... More

We had lunch here. We were thrilled with the find. We managed to tick off several items on the bucket list. We shared a plate of frogs legs ( most delicious). The meals were all great. The service great and the ambience great.

Beautiful location and lots of people eating there made me to go there and sit next to one of tiny-tiny tables in the garden. Lack of privacy and personal space is natural thing on the streets of the Paris- I accept it. Friendly waiter (for a Paris ;)) took our order- mules and escargots, and beer. We didn't had to... On of the coolest areas on the planet is the artists square the 'place du Tertre' if you fancy a jazz atmosphere with cool tunes, velour material wallpaper and a sense of relaxed calm a good place to stop, sit outside or inside, coffee good, crepes good, prices ok for area, service average but all in all a good pit... Good ambience, with live music. But that's it. The food is regular for the price of the menu and the water... Was it made from unicorn tears? It could be for that price...!

Greeted by a very friendly waitress and had the most wonderful breakfast which was excellent value considering the prime location at Montmartre. A great spot to eat and drink while watching the world go by and would thoroughly recommend.

One of Paris' most historic restaurants, founded in 1793 by Catherine Lemoine, the decor of Chez la Mere Catherine respects its past, retaining features such as traditional antiques, chairs and a bar. Spread throughout large rustic rooms, this is the original 'bistro' overlooking the city, with a peaceful garden and a blooming flowery terrace for wonderful summer dining. Although the menu has certainly changed over the years to meet the wishes of the clientele, the changes are not so radical as to stray from the typical cuisine of France. Offerings on the menu include Honey Confit of Suckling Pig, Ginger Grilled Frog's Legs and Seabream with Mango Coulis, amongst other delights. Entertaining you with performances of yesteryear, cabaret singers put on a show every night, whilst you enjoy your dinner in the romantic atmosphere of the village of Montmarte.

Staying in Montmartre

Neighbourhood Profile
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colours, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
