Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We ate here on a very busy saturday in May and were pleased to have booked ahead as the restaurant was full. There are several menu options to choose from, or simply à la carte options. The cuisine is solidly french with many different meat...options. Our party of four all went for different entrées, mains and desserts and everyone was satisfied with their meals. The prices are quite reasonable and the quantities generous. Service was slow at times, likely due to the huge party that arrived just before us. This restaurant is not a groundbreaking hotbed of innovation, it is however a solid satisfying option in Epernay.More

Returned here after several years - the experience was just as remembered - excellent. A warm welcome with a reserved table in a quiet location (reservations almost essential here). Fabulous menu choices - nobody in our party was disappointed with any of their courses. Very...good wine list with plenty of choice and reasonably priced. Overall great value of money and an excellent eveningMore

This restaurant certainly deserves its place within the Michelin guide. It’s a very relaxed establishment with excellent levels of service. There is a wood fired grill that the specials are cooked on. The cote de boeuf is really tasty and highly recommended. The wine menu...is MASSIVE! Fortunately the waiters have great knowledge and will guide you to the most suitable choice. Book early and ensure you get a response to confirm. Fantastic place to visit whilst in EpernayMore

Good choice of menu, set menus and a la carte. Food was superb, wine choice good and staff were friendly and helpful, service was well paced. A great restaurant to visit if you are staying in Epernay.

The best food experience I ever had until now. The menu confiance is really awesome. Foiegras, veau and no boned pigeon stuffed with foiegras.

Came here with high expectations and left impressed and satisfied. The restaurant has fixed the reservation problem mentioned in previous reviews-I requested a table online which was confirmed via email within two days. Upon arrival service was top notch: coat closet, keeping our glasses full,...even providing a small amuse bouche when my partner had a dish (4 course) and I did not (3 course). Amazing ambiance with the blazing brick oven and of course every dish was phenomenal. We really couldn’t have been happier. English friendly. MUST VISIT!More

Check your reservation! We reserved on-line and got a message in green that give the impression we reserved. At the restaurant indeed it meant they received the request but would contact to confirm….but never contacted. This did not only mean we did not have a...table for dinner on a Saturday evening. The worst was the extremely unfriendly way of communicating when we arrived at the restaurant. Food might be great, but very poor service in terms of lack of communication first and unfriendliness afterwards.More

"Sh... happens!" also in good restaurants. But the way in which that is managed teaches you a lot about a place. We used to like La Grillade and I wrote a very positive review in 2018, the last time we were there. This time (...on my birthday!) disaster came in the form of a whole grilled (??) veal kidney. It was sinewy and almost completely raw! I never openly complain in foreign restaurants because I don't want to act like the "ugly German", so I left almost the complete kidney with the raw parts up on my plate. The stylishly and spotlessly dressed chef who was swaggering through his place fishing for compliments all the time noticed it after a quarter of an hour, did not apologize but mumbled something like "We can put it in the pan for a few minutes...." I simply refused. The only acceptable offer would have been a new plate with a properly cooked dish. Of course, I know that kidneys should not be served well- done but "rose", however," raw" is totally unaccepable. On a table close to ours we saw the same dish correctly prepared some minutes later Now it took almost half an hour until our plates were removed ( we asked for it!), obviously the waiters were scared. You can imagine the joyful mood on our table of four.....also because the other dishes did not come up to our expectations, but there was no reason to complain. Believe it or not: No word of regret or an apology when we left. Incredible. At least the Champagne was good but next time we will avoid coming here again. The chef will not care - the place was as crowded as ususl.More

Our experience is similar to the other enthusiastic reviews; quintessential family run place serving top-drawer traditional dishes, with precision and style. Focus is on meaty items grilled on the open wood grate in the dining room, as well as a lovely fixation on fois gras....We had a starter of impeccable sardine coated in sesame seeds with concentrated tomato water (a gesture to modernity) as well as a perfect slice of terrain de fois gras (the extremely professional waitstaff on their own initiative split each into two portions and served them sequentially for us) We both had the half rack of lamb with a baked potato as the main dish, which seems prosaic but was flawless. We both had the rococo tangerine baba for desert, a deft twist on a classic. There were many other attractive items on offer; classic escargot, pigeon en croute stuffed with (surprise) fois gras, T-bones for two or three, even some fish. Dining room is cheerful and cozy but not cramped. Service and pacing were spot-on. Wine list is extensive and fairly priced. Two starters, two mains, two desserts, two glasses of champagne and a bottle of good Aloxe Corton OLIVER 2017 (€79) was €211 and we were very satisfied. Will definitely return.More

This was our 2nd visit to this delightful family-run restaurant. All aspects of our dining experience were exceptional. The Front of House team do a great job of looking after customers with great efficiency. The Chef Patron frequently walks around the tables to greet customers....The food is wonderful, as is the wine offering. A second visit can sometimes not live up to expectations but this is not the case with La Grillade Gourmande, and we would not hesitate to book again when in the Epernay area.More

I was recommended this restaurant by our hotel, booked it well in advance and it needed to be every table was full, mainly French people (always a good sign) main local. Chef comes out to speak to everyone. Food is ran like clockwork, organisation is...key. So to the food, simply delicious, perfectly cooked, presentation is “mom & pop” which suits it to the ground. We didn’t have cheese but their cheeseboard looked awesome. The courtyard was lovely & felt like you were at someone’s house party being taken care of with great food and “Bon Ami” Waiters were all caring and seemed to love their jobs… we had such a great time, with great food it was a winning combination In comparison we at at Le Bellevue” the evening after, their food was 3 x the price, mediocre and unimaginative, do yourself a favour and book La Grillade Gourmande or you’ll miss out on a great experienceMore

Possibly the best of the restaurants we experienced on our travels. Imaginative menu and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend, but you need to book as it is very popular.

Amazing restaurant with lovely outside space for dining. Warm welcome and waiters super attentive particularly when the rain came they rushed to put up awning and parasols to keep us dry. Best cote de boeuf I have ever eaten, cooked to perfection on open wood...fire. Wine list or wine book was extensive. Would not hesitate to recommend lovely restaurantMore

Hi & it is a quaint restaurant with an outdoor patio - I am not sure if they have a private function room. Thanks for asking.
