A group of us had a very good lunch. The local hake is wonderful sprinkled with fried garlic and served with small Spanish green peppers fried in olive oil. The service is typical of a busy bistrot. The place is not quiet and it is full of people. People enjoying a lovely meal. Don't miss it if you get the... More

Vegetarian friendly. Very warm place! The food was really served well. The waiter spoke english so it was easy to explain what we could eat. Had rose wine, raviolli, vegetables. Their house fries were nice. Must have their dessert. Thank you team Chez Kako

Had a great meal here last year but last night was a complete disaster. The plate of beef for two at around €44 was cold, tough and virtually inedible. We sent it back twice and eventually refused to accept it. To be fair they didn't charge us and the restaurant was full and I don't know if there were any... More

At dinner at Chez Kako, I ordered a wonderful Basque style pork shoulder with sauteed mushrooms dish, secreto du porc. It was so delicious that I returned to the restaurant two days later to enjoy the pork dish again. Despite not much English being spoken there, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was cozy. The food was exquisite. This... More

A visit on a very wet evening , not a soul to be seen on the way to the restaurant, albeit a wet Monday. We walked in the door to Chez Kako and that's when the cloud's lifted. In order of quality received: Service, food and exceptional hospitality. We arrived blind and left guided by the culinary expertise of the... More

Great ambiance and fantastic food, we had the côté de bœuf which is to be shared, make sure that you're hungry because the portion was generous to say the least, cooked to perfection and wonderfully tender, washed down with a bottle of Pinna Fidelis, a red Spanish wine from Ribera del Duero, which was equally sublime. I can't praise this... More

Went for lunch on market day. Place busy and, as we were eating in the evening, just had the plat + coffee. The food was very good, a tasty burger in a panino with tomato, onion and cheese, salad leaves, and good fries. With the coffee 11.50 euro each, a bargain. On the downside the place is small. We had... More

What a great restaurant and lively and fun too, very busy on a Saturday evening. Well worth a visit with a wonderful selection of genuine Basque food on their menu. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in St Jean de Luz.

We picked Chez Kako after discovering it ourselves AND having the concierge at our hotel recommend it. We had been leaning that direction but the concierge's vote sealed the deal. We dined at Chez Kako for our first night in St. Jean-de-Luz and we were excited to experience the place. The vibe is cool - bustling and young, with friendly... More

From beautiful and substantial strips of calamari to beef cooked in wine that just melts in your mouth, qualiticious meal. Served and assisted by Gaetan, he made our stay even more enjoyable and fun. Putting the fun aside for a moment, to us, the waiters appeared to take their job v.seriously, conscientiously, with the customer being foremost in their thinking.... More
