Dined at The French with friends for a pre Christmas treat. We had the 9 course tasting menu and wine flight to accompany each course. Everything was sublime with delectable intense yet balanced flavours. Seasonal produce carefully cooked and beautifully presented. Service was efficient and friendly and we even got to chat with Adam Reid about the food and his... More

I've been to the French a dozen times over the last few years and would claim it to by the best restaurant I've been to. It is better than Michelin star restaurants and only Restaurant Gordon Ramsay was on a par. I have had some amazing experiences here before and feel bad for writing this review but I was disappointed... More

Went for the first time since Adam Reid has taken over and we weren't disappointed. Booked the Great British Menu tasting lunch and enjoyed every minute. Staff were wonderfully attentive when we arrived, took us to a lovely large table. We had already pre ordered our menu so a copy was printed on the table for us to follow along... More

Went to taste Adam Reid's TV menu.A lovely meal but I must admit the main course wasn't that impressive. The meat was fatty and a big piece of gristle. In fairness my wife's was fine, just unlucky I guess.Loved the fish course. The finale was the sugar spun apple which was amazing and I soon forgot my main course.Adam did serve the apple himself... Dining room was kinda casual. Not a big place so might be slightly difficult to score a reservation. Restaurant had quite a lot of staff, service was good but no real personalized connection as you don't have a dedicated person serving you. Still worth dining here as it was a good meal but no standout dishes for me. I would... More

Really disappointing to write this review. Visited the restaurant in November for my wife's birthday. A week or so earlier I sent an email to the restaurant to make aware of the occasion of our visit. Just simply asked if anything could be done to help celebrate... A sparkler with dessert, happy birthday on the plate etc.... The kind of... More

We booked again as soon as we found out Adam Reid would be presenting his menu from the Great British Menu. Our first time since the refurb, the restaurant has a much more relaxed feel to it, and as usual the food was superb. It was a nice touch to get to talk to Adam as he came out to... More

Visited The French for a family celebration in early November. We had been to Le Gavroche and L’Enclume in the past so we had high expectations. Arriving at The Midland we were disappointed at the lack of a suitable location to have a pre-dinner drink. For such an upmarket restaurant, the external ambiance is extremely disappointing. The Midland Lobby is... More

I guess to most of the diners here this is something they can easily afford but I had to save up to take myself and my daughter. We were so excited and the sense of occasion and service by all the staff was indeed special. We were rather less impressed by the food (I am so jealous of those who... More

I surprised my wife with a trip to The French for her birthday. The whole experience was brilliant. The staff were friendly and engaging, the sommelier very knowledgable and helped us choose 2 fantastic bottles of red. But the food was amazing. Every single course. And it was great to meet and chat to Adam Reid. We even got to... More
