Based on the dark and low ceilinged downstairs I wasn't expecting the bright and spacious restaurant upstairs. Really pleasantly surprised, the food was really good and service friendly. If you like pies (who doesn't?!) there is a wide range, and they were delicious.

Hi Sarah, thank you very much for your kind feedback! So happy to hear you were pleasantly surprised by our gorgeous building - we really think it's just as beautiful on the inside as it in on the out! We recently went back to our roots and rebooted our pie menu, so it's lovely to hear that you approved! More

Had dinner in The Old Wellington before going to see a show at the Manchester Arena and was not disappointed. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the wooden beams and ambiance made you forget that you were in the center of Manchester! We ordered a rib-eye steak and the beef, mushroom and ale pie, both of which have made us... More

Hi there, thank you for the great review! It's fabulous to hear that our menu made you want to return. If you liked the beef and amber ale pie, I would suggest you try the beef & stilton next - it's absolutely gorgeous. Or, if cheese isn't your thing, the chicken, chorizo and cider pie is fabulous too! We'd love... More

It is difficult to miss this place once you are nearby. The architecture is typical Georgian English House which is lovely. Inside the pud so see the wooden frames and structure of the building which gives you the feeling that you are sitting in a few hundred years old building. Staff are friendly and welcoming. I had a great time... More

Hi there, and thank you for your review! You're not wrong - our pub IS a few hundred years old! (465 years to be exact, meaning it's actually a Tudor building dating back to King Edward VI's reign!) Glad to hear you noticed it though; we love it too! We get extremely busy in the summer due to our vast... More

After a long coach trip my wife and I were ready for lunch before tackling the shops. This is a cosy, 3 floor pub, with dining on the second floor. The menu is standard pub grub but with a selection of delicious sounding pies. I had the scampi with samphire Tatars sauce, my wife had Gloucester old spot sausages and... More

At over 400 years old with a fabulous & storied tale of existence this is a place not to miss. Read the plaque for the story and marvel it has survived this long. In town to see Elbow so had to visit the gorgeous Cathedral & came upon this a stone's throw away. If you love pubs you can't miss... More

Wow, what a fabulous review! Thanks so much! We really do hope you return again soon - our beer selection is constantly changing so there should always be something that takes your fancy. Our menu also changes twice a year so there's never a lack of something new in our gorgeous pub - even if the building is so old! More
