Great food, beautifully presented not pretentious, simply delicious. The service was relaxed, attentive and no pressure to vacate the table. Treat yourself you won't regret it.

My wife and I had dinner here last Friday night. The food was great and so was the service. The staff were friendly and attentive despite it being busy. Portion sizes were good and everything was cooked well. We were also pleasantly surprised when presented with the bill. The only gripe we have is about the location of the pub... More

Booked a family lunch for five on the basis of the excellent trip advisor reviews. We weren't disappointed; both service and food were excellent. My mussel starter in particular was sensational, and the strip loin was also very good (could have done with a little more of the sauce, but I'm being picky). Everyone else in our party really enjoyed... More

Who would have thought that, of all the places I visited in my travels, I'd find the best meal I've ever had on the A30 just outside Basingstoke? This was the second time we'd visited. The meal on our first time had already been outstanding, so we already knew we'd be in for a treat when we decided to order... More

The Sun Inn at Dummer, had the bright idea to extend British Sausage Week into the whole of November, and donate half the proceeds from their 'Bangers and Cash' menu to the local Food Bank in Basingstoke. Well done the Sun Inn! The Bangers & Cash menu consisted of a light black pudding starter followed by (you've guessed it) bangers... More

Once again we visited this restaurant and had a fantastic meal. It is not the first time we have been and have never been disappointed, it gets better and better. It is certainly not an obvious choice to visit but is definitely worth the effort The food is of high quality cooked on the premises by a talented team and... More

Very friendly landlord and wife. This has become our local even though one of us has to drive. Food is fabulous and often have a difficult decision as to which one of these great meals to choose.Portion size huge. We tend to share a starter now so that there is still room for the pudding! Definitely worth a visit

Absolutely amazing food. We had the £29.95 taster menu each. The food beats so many of the other gastro pubs we have visited over the years. Normally when you go to a restaurant you are rushed to get through your food. We spent an incredible 3 hours sat by the fire enjoying top class food. Top tip :- Leave your... More

Called in the Sun one Saturday lunchtime ( the 5th Nov ) as I had heard good reports. The food was excellent. Don't expect the usual pub grub approach, i.e. large platefuls of Brake Brothers finest masquerading as home cooked. This was the real McCoy. The Landlord / Chef certainly knows his stuff and a special mention to our hostess,... More

Visited recently and mistakingly thought I'd never get a table as I booked last minute. Lo and behold when we arrived, well into the lunch period, the dining room was completely empty. What a shock. Had I not had guests with me I would have walked out. Shortly afterwards, 4 others arrived, but that was it. So you can imagine,... More
