About

We're a family run restaurant, known for our fresh, tasty and locally sourced dishes with an emphasis on friendly service in a relaxed bistro atmosphere. Our aim is to provide Great food, produced with ingredients from local suppliers, including our own organic vegetable garden in Gracedieu. We pride ourselves on our imaginative pasta dishes, locally rared beef, lamb & chicken, freshly caught fish and of course probably the best stone baked pizza in the land!

COVID-19 Lockdown Order

Absolutely fantastic food this evening from Espresso during our continued COVID-19 lockdown. We had four different pasta mains and a couple of different starters and it was all absolutely very very tasty along with all very generous sized portions. Looking forward to going back again for a sit in meal when we enter phase three of reopening our Country during this COVID-19 pandemic. What more can I say but...... Food = 5+ stars ⭐ Value for money = 5+ stars ⭐ Friendliness/Customer Service = 5+ stars ⭐

Well all I can say is the food was absolutely fantastic a favourite restaurant pre covid, but....the portion size absolutely ridiculous for the price with no early bird menu. It was 18 euro for a pasta dish with 4 pieces of chicken that was out of a packet and not a breast... very over priced.

Great food and very nice staff......

Great food and very nice staff...... We visited this restaurant over the weekend and very very impressed. Hygiene (Covid) taken very seriously and plenty of sanitizer around. Nice, relaxed atmosphere and staff very helpful. Menu was varied and reasonably priced. Recommend the ribs for starter and ‘meatatarian’ pizza

Fine if you want a fairly tasty fuss free meal but not fine if you compare it to other Italian restaurants in Waterford

This is my 2nd time here and from what I can remember from the first time, it was a Sunday dinner consisting of a tasty pasta dish which I enjoyed. However I came here for a late Christmas work dinner and it was very mediocre at best. I didn’t opt for a starter but I ordered a pizza that had bacon on it and unfortunately the bacon looked and tasted like it had been cooked for hours so was chewy and hard to taste. I ordered the cookie sandwich with ice cream for dessert and it was disappointing because I was expecting the cookie to be soft and gooey but it was of a hard texture and something you could just make yourself at home so no imagination went into it whatsoever. My colleagues also commented that their courses were mediocre too. I might come here for lunch again as the food tastes nice but only if I was stuck unfortunately

Expresso but take time to linger.

Another journey and another opportunity to sample a restaurant of character. Today it was the Italian Expresso in Waterford City. I arrived around 4pm but the space was empty, such a shame as the dining room was filled with atmosphere. Safely seen to a table by the window I was well looked after during my stay. My chosen pasta dish with focaccia was superb, cooked to order and enveloped in a light sauce, it was just excellent. I was glad upon leaving that the dining room had began to fill and the chatter added greatly to the atmosphere. Happy and content I could continue my journey.

Superb birthday meal

A group of 10 of us enjoyed a wonderful meal to celebrate my 50th birthday this weekend. The service was excellent from start to finish and nothing was too much to ask for. The drinks were delivered very quickly (most important) and all the starters arrived together as did the mains. Everybody was delighted with their food and we had a wonderful evening.

Not too bad! could be better

I went here on my birthday a few weeks ago just me and my girlfriend. the host was nice but they only had herself and another server. It didn't seem too busy but the server acted like she was ran off her feet! maybe she done all the work. there wasn't many words from her which made us feel a bit uncomfortable but you couldn't argue with her efficiency, maybe she would of been better working in the kitchen. we got the BBQ ribs for starters between us they were lovely fell off the bone. I got the sausage and beef cannelloni for mains which was strange but edible. The sauce was lovely but the meat had been over steamed. It almost has the texture of tuna and not much flavour very weird to be honest. My girlfriend got the mushroom and truffle tagliatelle which was nice. Overall average but not too disappointing, reasonably priced.

Tasty Italian

We enjoyed our starters of bruschetta with mozzarella cheese. The mains were good sized portions. We asked for a side of focaccia bread which was a lovely accompaniment. We like carbs with our carbs. The service was quick and friendly. Good covid precautions in place.

Standards have fallen

Place has really gone downhill in the last 12 months. Loads of unpleasant spatters on the walls which was really unappealing. Had mussels to start which were good but my Spaghetti Marinara was bland and fish was almost non existent. Had two different glasses of wine land neither was good. Unfortunately I won’t be back. There are better restaurants in Waterford.

Expresso by name but carefully planned menus served by excellent staff is the real experience.

It just seemed the ideal stopover before returning to Dublin and indeed this occasion was no different. Just perfect from start to finish. A wonderful warm welcome, perfect attention to detail and the most delicious food. Prawns to start with an excellent local beef tagliatelle to finish, I was ready for the drive back. Expresso ticks all the boxes and more. Proud to be able to write this new review.

OK, so it's a lovely restaurant. Not Italian at all. Hard pressed to find any dish, considered Italian. 5 pasta dishes. Food does not portray its Italian heritage. Shame. Understandable just no fair. Folks lovely, but not looking for a hamburger

Excellent Italian Food

In spite of sounding like a café, this is a very good Italian restaurant. We are often very wary of choosing pasta dishes, but in this case we were very pleased that we did. We had a carbonara and a Bolognese dish, both were excellent.

If you are looking for a place with good food full of flavor, spare yourself this restaurant, I don’t know who writes these positive reviews. It's more of a cheap diner than an Italian restaurant if you want to eat good Italian food go to Emilianos

Been to espresso last week was absolutely fabulous food was perfect couldn't fault it in anyway. The only issue we had was a slight order mishap but they rectified it no prob at all well done we will be back.
