About
Walking off Sligo main shopping street into Hargadons is like taking a step back in time, as its delightful and charismatic interior is almost the same as when it first opened. The present building situated at 4 & 5 O’Connell Street, Sligo was built in 1864 by Bernard Collery, a local merchant, who was also a member of Sligo Town Council and a Member of Parliament representing Sligo. The businesses carried on included general grocery and the retail and wholesale of beer, wine and spirits based in the cellars and bonded warehouse at the rear of the building. After Mr. Collery’s death in 1909 the property was acquired by Messrs Patrick & Thomas Hargadon who gave the property its name. Hargadon

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In many years visiting Sligo, (one of, if not the best venue for a break in Ireland), for some unknown reason we have not dined here. Shame cos It is superb - a very snug place to eat with many snugs ! Loads of character....Very comfortable. First class food and lovely warm staff, we loved it.More

Nice place when it's opened, just recently discovered it's closed three days per week. Old style pub in every sense with a bar food menu which is just above average. Quirky seating in the hallway which would remind one of an old fashioned rail carriage. Staff...were pleasant and helpful but looked tired. Hopefully we can visit again when it's opened.More

A lovely quaint bar with lots to look at. Probably the nicest burgers we’ve ever had. So chunky and absolutely beautifully cooked.

Myself and sister ordered 2 sandwiches €15 each. I ordered Turkey, stuffing and all the dressings, a choice of chips or salad costing €15 My sister ordered salmon on brown bread with salad. The turkey sandwich with so called stuffing was tasteless, no flavours, no...seasoning and on a bland bread roll. The salmon sandwich was the same except the treacle bread was lovely…. I couldn’t finish my sandwich so I ate the crusts leftover on salmon sandwich… Definitely won’t returnMore

We booked here because of a recommendation & it didn't disappoint. The staff were friendly. We didn't have to wait long on our food & the food was beautiful & not over priced. We will definitely be back.

It’s a sleeping giant not reaching its true potential. Largely this has to do with its hours of opening. It’s hard to believe that such a lovely quaint and authentic Irish pub is closed on the key holidays of the year. It closes on Sundays...and Mondays throughout the year and has the remarkable closing time of 10 pm on weekdays. It possibly is the only pub in Ireland with this rule. This is not the result of the pandemic but was always the case. It’s doing well but doesn’t want to do better. Food was excellent but staff like to move you on and are very keen to get home. The emphasis is on cuisine and walk-ins are quite intimidating. You have to declare very quickly if it’s just a drink you’re planning to have and dare not walk in expecting a table without a booking.More

This bar was recommended to us for their food, which was excellent. The portions were large which was great, & as I couldn't finish my main course they boxed it up for me to take with me. I was even offered extra bread & salad....We were seated in the snug, with a little hatch to the bar. This is an old pub & thankfully they have kept it that way. Darren & Siobhan, were amazing, made time to chat to us, made sure we were happy with the food & service. Keep up the good work. Will be backMore

Top rate food and service. The children’s menu had the best options we have seen in a long time. Fresh food to cater for all tastes. It took a while for my kids to decide what they wanted. They obviously made the right choice as...all plates were cleared. Adults had sandwiches. Huge portions with delicious food. Staff were patient and friendly. Good value for money. Beware - kitchen closes early in the evening.More

During our two week driving tour of Ireland we had dinner in a different pub or restaurant each night. Most pubs that served food called themselves Gastro Pubs but did not live up to that name. The menus were all the same and the food...was standard fare. That's why when we saw the menu at Hargadon's we were very pleasantly surprised. During our holiday, I had been looking for somewhere that served an Irish stew for dinner but had never seen it on any menu until we got here. The stew was really lovely. It was so nice to have some proper traditional, tasty food. The staff and atmosphere were also excellent. Well done Hargadon Bros!More
